Today we’d like to introduce you to Amina Valley.
Amina, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am a true believer in constant learning! I absolutely love learning and developing new skills. My professional growth and desire to help and empower others were discovered while attaining my terminal degree. I received an MBA in Management and Ph.D. in Leadership Studies from Our Lady of the Lake University in San Antonio, TX, where I currently serve as adjunct faculty to undergraduate and graduate students.
While attending school, I was a single mother of two, so I had to work. I often found myself struggling to make ends meet but knew that one day the education I would attain would pay off. So, I worked in oil and gas as a change management consultant while attending school full time (on the weekends) and teaching. I HUSTLED!!!
After receiving my doctorate, I continued my work as a full-time independent consultant in the oil and gas industry. I also continued to work as an adjunct faculty with Our Lady of the Lake University and in recently, I currently serve as a content expert for Grand Canyon University. This role allows me to serve as a dissertation committee member and assist doctoral students in their dissertation review before graduation.
An additional fulfilling job I have is the ability to assist others in their credit repair. Due to the hustle and bustle of school and being a single mom with several responsibilities, I, too, fell victim to the woes of poor financial management. I have educated myself and now dedicate a part of myself to others with the ability to gain financial freedom.
My goal in all aspects of my career is to educate and provide a platform from which I can inspire, empower, mentor, and promote success which is transcended in the effort to encourage others to reach their full potential – albeit, academically, professionally or financially.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Has the path been easy? Absolutely not. There were times when I felt alone. I felt, “how in the world can I get through this?” I often questioned myself. There were initial goals in life I had as a child that changed significantly as I became an adult and I questioned those. But, I knew God placed me here where I am today for a purpose – a reason. And, I also knew that the path would not always be straight. I had to go through obstacles and hindrances myself if I was to be a testimony to others. How could I inspire, empower and motivate others, if I can not relate?
Please tell us about IANYS Consulting.
The beauty of my business is that I have the luxury to work in consulting as well as empower others in the financial capacity. Let me explain. I work with a company, Financial Education Services (FES), who allow their independent business owners the luxury to continue to perform at their normal jobs while working the business. Here at FES, we provide a multi-layer financial service package designed to protect our clients and their families’ assets. This package is referred to as the ‘Protection Plan Membership’ and consists of over 12 benefits and services that includes our core product, credit restoration.
At IANYS Consulting, we offer oil and gas organizations change management, training and development and organizational and behavior design, and project management services. We delight in going beyond being a traditional consultant and advisor, but rather seek to develop a partnership and empower our clients to view change and challenges differently and to deliver sustainable success desired.
I am delighted and energetic about supporting, challenging and motivating my clients and am very passionate about making a positive impact in their lives in both FES and IANYS Consulting.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
What would I have done differently? That’s an interesting question. There are so many things I could say. I could say I would have completed dental school (I attended dental school at one time) or I would have gone to law school (I applied before). But, as I reflect on those thoughts, I realize those were not the paths that God chose for me. It may have been my ‘wants’ at the time, but God chose differently. Would I have truly been happy in those roles? I don’t know. But here is where I’m supposed to be and I’m ok with that. I don’t have any regrets.
