Meet Amy Maddox

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Maddox.

Amy, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I began my career in photography in 2009 in Georgia in both photojournalism and the commercial sector, freelancing for companies, universities, and performing arts centers. In addition to that, I shot portraits. But I fell in love with wedding and boudoir photography within a few years. There’s just something so special about weddings. I love being a part of the happiest day of people’s lives.

My husband was headhunted to work for NASA and in 2017, the week before Hurricane Harvey, he and I moved to Houston. We apparently have impeccable timing. Houston has welcomed us with open arms and I’ve been able to grow our business and work with amazing vendors.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Moving to Houston was challenging. I had to find a way to stand out in an already over-saturated market in the 4th largest city in the country, where, unlike in Georgia, my reputation was unknown.

It took about a year to really get my foot in the door. But one happy client referred another and another and so on and soon my name and brand became more recognized in the area.

Learning a new city wasn’t easy either. I spent weeks researching wedding venues, parks and other locations, driving around looking for the perfect places to bring my clients for their engagement sessions. But Houston has some beautiful and unique spots.

Amy Maddox Photography – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I specialize in luxury wedding and boudoir photography with a soft, light, and airy style. My boudoir is very classic, romantic, and demure. I love white, neutral, dreamy images and I use soft light, flattering posing, and fun prompts to create genuine, joyful photographs.

One thing I am very proud of is in 2020, I was awarded the Two Bright Lights Platinum Circle Award for being one of the top 12 most published photographers in the country. It was a huge honor. I’m still reeling over it.

One thing that sets us apart is our client experience. We spoil our clients. We send an 80+ page Bridal Guide to all our brides to help them plan a photo-friendly wedding and a How to Prepare Guide for boudoir clients… We help create custom timelines, research vendors and send goodies and gifts like handmade ring dishes, vow books, and our favorite relationship tool, the book Five Love Love Languages. During their complimentary engagement session, I walk them through every step, guide them through posing, giving constant instruction and feedback so there’s never an awkward moment where they don’t know what to do. And we really take the time to get to know them so that their unique love story shines.

We also have a huge wardrobe of truly special pieces that our clients can use for their photoshoots. We buy tulle skirts and beaded gown’s from all over the world in different colors, shapes, and sizes and we loaned them to our clients free of charge. It’s a way to make your pictures really special without having to spend hundreds of dollars on a dress that you’re likely never going to wear again. I also have a huge collection of lingerie for my Boudoir clients. We handle all of the cleaning and list each garment on our website along with the sizes.

What is “success” or “successful” for you?
I define success by how happy my clients are. The best thing in the world is when we get referred by a happy bride, or when they call us for anniversary, family, maternity, or boudoir pictures after their wedding. Because then I know that I’ve made them feel comfortable and they love the images we created together.

Being published and recognized by other vendors is awesome too.

Pricing:
