Meet Amy Scarborough

Today we’d like to introduce you to Amy Scarborough.

Hi Amy, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I think I fell in love with the darkroom in High School. I was on the yearbook staff as a sports writer and transitioned to the darkroom and just loved being able to capture and create photos. From there, I went to Texas Lutheran University for communications and graduated from St. Edwards with a M.L.A. I went into the corporate world doing marketing for a government contractor and learned a lot along the way from the business aspect of things. I still felt like I was missing something in my life. I picked up a camera again and just started with small family sessions, not charging anything. From there, I did online classes in photoshop through ACC.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I think Covid really hit everyone in this industry hard. I would have a week where several clients would cancel or reschedule their wedding, which I completely understood. You just have to pivot and learn how to survive in the industry.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I own several businesses, all under AL Gawlik Photography, LLC., which is my wedding photography line. I grow with my couples and have Gypsy Pearl Studio, which is family and lifestyle. I also own Betty Blue Boudoir, which is a female portraiture brand that empowers women through a photo session.

I think what sets my work and style apart is that it is reverent and timeless. It captures what is truly important to each couple and knowing that it all starts with creating a great relationship with that couple from the time they book me. I want to make their experience the best it can be.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Work ethic is key in being successful and showing your value and worth. I always ask what legacy will I leave behind to my own daughter and I want her to realize that you have to work hard for what you want in your life.
