Meet Andi Minett of Southern Flow Yoga in Rice Millitary/ Washington Corridor

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andi Minett.

Andi is from Baton Rouge, LA and recently moved back to Houston with her husband, Scott, a Houston native, children Poppy and Perry, and labradoodle, Leo. She is expecting twins in April 2020. She is a graduate of LSU and The College of Charleston.

Exercise and healthy living have always been an important part of Andi’s life. She became even more ardent about leading a healthy, balanced lifestyle after her children were born. Realizing the effects a good workout have on physical and even more so, mental well-being, propelled Andi’s desire to start a fitness studio of her own.

Andi is passionate about helping men and women of all ages (and especially moms) fall in love with exercise and realize the positive impact it has not only on themselves but those around them.

When Andi is not on her mat at SO FLOW, you can find her behind the scenes doing girl boss things. She hopes that with every class, members are able to tone, stretch and strengthen their bodies in a welcoming, safe and encouraging environment so they can live, look and feel their best.

Has it been a smooth road?
The road hasn’t been completely smooth, but I think anything worthwhile has its challenges. As first-time business owners, there is a huge learning curve. We have learned so much about running a business since we started. Starting from scratch can be scary but I couldn’t be happier with the way things have gone. This whole process has really forced me to step out of my comfort zone and use my brain in ways I never have before. Although things can get hectic and stressful, Rebekah and I constantly talk about how exciting and surreal it is that we’re getting to start our own business.

Personally, my biggest challenge is balancing the work-family life. I have two toddlers at home and right before opening SO FLOW, I found out I was pregnant with twins. Trying to keep a healthy work-life balance, and getting over that so-called “mom-guilt” has been challenging. Not to mention the exhaustion that comes with being a pregnant mom with a full-time job! But luckily, I have a great husband, great business partner and lots of family support that enables me to live out my dream. We wouldn’t have it any other way! Teamwork makes the dream work!

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Southern Flow Yoga story. Tell us more about the business.
Southern Flow Yoga is “Houston’s Hottest Workout” where people can sculpt, stretch and sweat (a lot)! Everyone is welcome at our studio regardless of age, experience level, etc.

We offer two variations of hot yoga classes that are heated to 90+ degrees. Our 60-minute signature Sculpt class combines cardio, light weights, calisthenics and traditional yoga flow while our 45-minute restorative Stretch class focuses on flexibility, alignment, coordination, core strength and breath. By incorporating both of these classes into a routine workout regimen, people won’t need to worry about supplementing elsewhere.

Incorporating a dose of southern hospitality into our studio is also very important to us, as we want it to feel like a second home for people.

Our studio is light, bright and happy. Our vision was to create this type of happy atmosphere. One of my favorite aspects of our studio is our connecting patio. We hope members gather there before or after class to either socialize, work or enjoy the fresh air after a good sweat!

How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
We hope to quickly grow our So Flow community in Houston, which may include some additional studios down the line! Stay tuned!
