Meet Andre Sloan of Category 6

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andre Sloan.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up in poverty it seemed all the odds were stacked against me, my father was incarcerated in 1991 (my birth year) and was sentenced to life in prison. They said he always wanted a boy and I was The 1st. He was not able to see or hold me because he was sent away before I was Born. I grew Up with my mother and many siblings. Singing was always a part of me but I was Afraid to give my all because of the fear of people sounding better.

In 2012 my mother did 3 years federal time for a crime she didn’t commit, I left college and immediately had to take care of my family putting my dreams as a basketball scholar behind me. In 2016 I was Diagnosed with HIV and before then was living a homosexual lifestyle. That changed my life, homosexuality made me very uncomfortable so I changed My life to be comfortable by asking God to assist me.

I am Now not the same person I use to be. I have Started a band and joined a great Non Profit in Houston named Writers Block, whereIi am The communications director. My single releases on August 11 and I’m grateful that God is using me to speak to his people. My purpose in life is to heal set fee and deliver Gods people through song and testimony.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has never been a smooth ride for me due to oppression and history. Now as a black male that struggled with homosexuality and also is diagnosed with HIV makes the road oh the bumpier.

Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Category 6 – what should we know?
I am A singer-songwriter inspirational artist in Houston that aspires to touch every single person in the world. I am Know about being transparent and “REAL”. something our brothers and sisters fail to do. In order to change lives, you must put yours on the forefront. Protection is not the key, it’s endurance.

I am Most proud of the little discipline I attained Over the years to run to Christ when I need Him. My story and what God gives me for his people sets me apart but the reality is I am Only as strong as my weakest brother and sister.

Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
1st and far most I thank God for giving me the gift to give to his chosen people. I wouldn’t be able to get my message across properly if it wasn’t for my dynamic band. Amos G Smith (MD) Keandre McClendon (Drums) Zion Lee (Bass).

They have pushed me into a spot of surrender to Christ. Amos is a gift from God, I actually Stayed with him when I found Out my mom was going to prison. He accepted me in my depressed state and also pushed me to lead sing (something I had Never done in a church setting).

Last but not least, AJ McQueen the founder and CEO of the Non Profit that I’m oh so dedicated to. We Are Wroters Block has been a blessing to my life, Aj has helped cultivate the gifts that God puts around him by teaching and guiding.
