Meet Andrea Daniela of Andrea Daniela Musica in Southeast

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Daniela.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Performing is definitely my passion. I started dancing at the age of 4 and from there my love for music progressed to singing then playing the violin and piano. I studied voice at The High School for the Performing and Visual Arts and when I was 15, I convinced my parents to allow me to gig with a professional mariachi band on the weekends. In 2009 I competed in the Mariachi Vargas Extravaganza in San Antonio, Texas placing first in the High School category, and in 2012 I participated in the Houston Rodeo Mariachi Invitational where I sang in front of more than 60,000 people in the NRG stadium. Mariachi music has allowed me to share my culture in other countries such as Norway, Vietnam, India, and Canada. Moreover, as a professional musician, I have shared the stage with artists I deeply admire like Las Jilguerillas, Ana Gabriel, Yolanda del Rio, Paquita la del Barrio and Shaila Durcal. I am eternally grateful for all the opportunities music has given me and thankful for all my supporters who believe in me and my talent.

Has it been a smooth road?
Being a woman in a male-dominated field is always a challenge. Mariachi is a traditional type of music, so there are some aspects of the genre that are still stuck in the past. The strongest example being that all of the top well-known mariachi bands are exclusively male only; women usually play in an entirely separate group. I have worked alongside many talented musicians over the years, nevertheless, I have noticed that I am almost always the only female of the group. Unfortunately, there are still men out there who are opposed to working with a female, and especially having her as a leader. I have felt judged, pressured, and even disrespected, but I have learned that the only person I need to prove myself to is myself.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Andrea Daniela Musica – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I consider myself a singer, dancer, violinist, musician and performer. I have been working in this industry for over ten years now and with time the hats I wear has evolved to include booking agent, manager and boss as well.

I believe my audience distinguishes me for my energy and charisma. Regardless if I’m performing on a stage in front of thousands or at an intimate backyard party I always put on a show. I have also been known to sing popular English tunes with mariachi; music is a universal language and I want to reach as many people as possible. I absolutely love what I do and my objective is always to make people smile.

Without a doubt, one of my proudest moments was in 2010, when I performed alongside world renowned Mariachi Vargas, Mariachi Camperos, and Mariachi Nuevo Tecalitlan for the Gran Finale at Teatro Degollado, as the only female mariachi on stage. In December 2018 I won the International singing competition “Las Grandes Voces del Mariachi” which was an honor and privilege to be invited to sing in concert with some of the best mariachis in the world in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico.

What are your plans for the future? What are you looking forward to or planning for?
My #1 goal is to continue to share my passion for traditional Mexican music with the world by bringing a unique perspective to the genre. I have currently working on recording an EP that I plan on releasing later this year; the sound will be folklore music but with a modern twist. And in other news, I just received my contract from the Houston Grand Opera and I’m extremely excited to announce that I will be a cast member of the Mariachi Opera “El Milagro del Recuerdo” this winter season.
