Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Davis.
Andrea, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am singer/songwriter, Andrea Davis and I’ve authored several books under the pseudonym, AE Thomas. Long Island, NY is my nesting ground but I’ve been living in Texas for over 20 years. My love of music, reading, and writing are the driving force behind my work.
‘Project Whores’ is a book series I began writing about five years ago when I was working on a government installation in Afghanistan. It is a fictitious story about a married man named Kyle Brewster who hooks up with Rejoice Battle, a woman he meets in the PX on a government project in where else, but Afghanistan? The action takes place on Bagram Airforce Base, thousands of miles away from their home state of Texas. The couples’ affair morphs into a leviathan they quickly realize they cannot control, but even more so; Kyle finds himself entangled with Rejoice and unable to break free. Things start to unravel when they come home for vacation and realize they’re trapped in their affair.
The title, ‘Project Whores’ is a play on words. Overseas contract work was not designed to be long-term. The working environment is harsh and the living conditions, austere. The idea is to go for a year, maybe two, make your money, then go home and live your life. However, the said “money” is CRAZY and can easily become addictive. When I left, I was making six very nice figures. So, people stay out there for years on end because they can’t easily break away from the money or the lifestyle. You are thousands of miles away from loved ones and everything familiar and it’s easy to create an alternate universe in which you thrive without all the constraints of home life. People who do this are referred to as “Project Whores” because they generally go from project to project making money and leaving home at home. It gets really good to them and they can’t get enough. The flip side is they often are in serious relationships with other people, sometimes several other people, on the project making them a bona fide Project Whore.
It is a four book series with many twists and turns the readers have no way of anticipating. Each tome contains powerful messages based on biblical principle and written in a way that “Everyman” can use and grow thereby. I had to think way outside the box in order to accomplish this goal.
“He Will Answer” is a collection of gospel music I released to inspire and encourage listeners. I wrote and performed all the songs along with my incredible producers Kenneth Roy and Donald Johnson AKA Beanz N Kornbread. The styles range from classic R&B, maybe a little Pop, and jazz. The most popular track is “Honeycomb” but my personal fave is the title track from the EP, “He Will Answer.”
Has it been a smooth road?
The road has been… interesting. My drive comes not from a desire to be rich and famous but from my love for God and my desire to please Him by using the gifts and talents He’s blessed me with to glorify Him and lift the name of Jesus. That said, the road can also be brutal. Creating songs, stories, teachings, etc. requires discipline and quiet. Long hours of quiet-ness and alone-ness are mandatory to produce the quality products you wish to offer. People often mistake that need for everything from you being standoffish to you being big headed. You tend to lose a lot along the way – including friends.
Trying to be heard and seen by the right people/entities can also be off-putting if you don’t keep your purpose first and foremost in your mind. Every time someone tells me one of my songs or books inspired them – I feel rich beyond words.
Andrea Davis Ministries – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Andrea Davis Ministries is a “restaurant” for those seeking inspiration and encouragement through the Word of God. Right now, you can choose books, songs, and teachings, In the near future I plan to add prayers in written and musical form and a children’s church curriculum to help our youth more easily understand biblical principals and thus more readily apply them to their lives. The ministry is ever growing and continuing to serve up The Living Word for those who are hungry for God. So, like Jesus said to the disciples after they had fished all night and didn’t catch anything: “Come and Dine.”
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
Times, trends, directions, tendencies, and mindsets are ever-changing. The Word of God is never-changing. The Bible is our only constant in a world full of variables. I plan to continue to stay current as far as the material I release but the message of the gospel of Jesus Christ will always be the foundation. His Word is a lamp unto my feet and a light unto my path: Where He leads, I will follow.
