Meet Andrea Resendez

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea Resendez.

Hi Andrea, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in a small town called Bellville just about an hour or so outside of Houston. When I graduated from High School, I had already determined that I wanted to be a nurse. It was fairly easy to come to this realization because I was already very familiar with healthcare due to my little brother having epilepsy. I discovered growing up that I truly wanted to help others like he had been helped. A lot of my drive and motivation to this very day comes from my brother Anthony. After graduating high school in 2014, I began my college journey at Prairie View A&M University. When I began my nursing program in 2017, I decided I wanted to document my journey on Youtube. By making this decision, I have been blessed with the opportunity to help many nursing students and nurses all over the world on my social media platforms (YouTube, Instagram, TikTok). I graduated from nursing school in May of 2019. So for the last three years, I have been working as a Registered Nurse. While having my job, I am still able to inspire others by creating motivating and inspiring content on social media.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
This has definitely not been a smooth road! My journey to becoming a Registered Nurse has come with many challenges. I had to learn so much in nursing school but I am grateful for that time in my life because it showed me how resilient and disciplined I truly am. When I was a new graduate nurse, I struggled a lot with anxiety. It was a very difficult time in my life and it really took a toll on my physical and mental health. After tons of prayer, therapy, and utilizing my support system, I was able to come out on the better end of my 1st year of nursing as a confident nurse with better health and coping mechanisms. I now use that time in my life to encourage others that if I can do it, they can too!

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I began my career as a Registered Nurse in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). This is where I have worked the night shift for the last three years taking care of sick and premature infants. I really loved my time here and I have learned so much but I have recently made the decision to begin a new journey in a new area of nursing which I am super excited about! (more details coming soon). I am most proud of the growth that I have experienced within the last three years. In my 1st year, I lacked a lot of confidence and as I mentioned earlier, it really took a toll on my health. Now that I have a better understanding of my career and how to utilize my resources in terms of asking for help when it’s needed and reaching out to others, it has taken such a positive effect on not only my career but myself as well. I have learned so much about myself! Also as I mentioned earlier, I have made the decision to begin my career in a new area of nursing which is actually another choice I made to support my mental health! I learned that you can’t care about what others think, you have to make decisions that are best for YOU and support YOU and YOUR health.

On the other hand, my career in content creation has really had such a positive effect on my life! It has been such a blessing to inspire, motivate, and entertain others all while being my authentic self. I love that I am able to show others that it’s okay to not be perfect (no one is) but take life one day at a time, and you can truly be your best self!

What does success mean to you?
I feel as though success is subjective. What one may say is success may not necessarily align with what the next person defines it as. If you have set a goal for yourself, whether small or large, and you have achieved that goal…you have been successful! I think it’s important to not compare your story and your journey to anyone else. When we do that, we tend to feel as though we may not be doing enough which results in feelings of being unsuccessful and not confident in ourselves. It’s important to celebrate your wins and remember progress > perfection.
