Meet Andrea White of Lil Drizzy in South Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrea White.

Andrea, before we jump into specific questions about your work, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
Growing up on the south side of Houston, I was exposed to the culture and style of hip-hop at a young age. By the age of 13 and 14, I was freestyling with friends just for fun, not thinking that the words I was spitting would resonate with me later on in life and actually hold value. Music was always just fun for me — nothing more, nothing less. But as social media developed and technology became an important factor in promoting music for artists, I decided to take a leap of faith and showcase my talent to the world. Mind you. I had never spit in front of large crowds. Nobody that knew me through school knew I could rap, only close friends of mine. So uploading this video took a lot out of me to post. My very first video was to Monica’s, “So Gone” instrumental, which was a big challenge circulating on the internet at the time. It pretty much shocked everyone that knew me, and I honestly received so much positive feedback that it made me look a little bit more into making more videos. So I decided, you know what… Let me try a song that’s hot right now and see how the people take to it. So I made a video to Cardi B’ s “Bodak Yellow” which was on the top of the charts at this point in time, and to test my luck, I uploaded the video to Twitter as well. The numbers started rolling in, and once I saw that Tokyo Jetz retweeted and quoted the video, I knew it was time for me to look into taking this serious. The rest was history. Then came cyphers, a few performances here and there, and now I’m working on my very first mixtape to put my sound out there and see how the world takes to it!

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It has been a smooth road thus far simply because the stage that I’m at right now is the easy part. Branding, promoting and marketing YOURSELF is the easiest part of the industry. Social media has lightened the load tremendously and made me a little bit more accessible to people that enjoy my sound. Of course, I’m prepared for the tough times that are ahead, but I’m enjoying moving at my own pace and controlling every aspect of my brand at this moment.

Please tell us about your work.
I’m an upcoming female hip-hop artist out of Houston, Texas and what sets me apart from other artists is my ability to break down and analyze a beat and make it sound like something out of this world. Along with wordplay, tone, and cadence, I bring personality and attitude to the table. My positive yet boss-like attitude will set me apart because my demeanor will demand attention in the room, but my talent will demand respect.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
I remember my Pops getting all the kids together to go to Six Flags and it was our very time going. We didn’t know anything about season passes, but he bought all of us season passes and let us run wild at the park. We literally had the time of our lives, and he was probably our favorite person on Earth at the time LOL.
