Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew DeBarbieris.
Andrew, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in Houston and have been here my entire life. After graduating from the University of Houston with an MBA in 2011, I decided to start my own business. What started as a small company doing Christmas lights and landscape lighting for homes, has evolved into a very successful commercial and industrial turnkey LED lighting company. We now have a sales team that calls on property managers, building owners, school districts, cities, counties, etc. We also have a team of highly skilled subcontractors that actually implement the lighting systems that we spec.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Smooth is not exactly the right word. There are always challenges no matter what step you are at. Our biggest struggles were just the learning curve because we entered a market we had no knowledge of and created a company from scratch. We didn’t have mentors, friends, or family that helped us enter the lighting business. This actually became one of our greatest benefits because it allowed us to do things differently and try things that other companies never thought of.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Spark Lighting – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We are a turnkey LED lighting provider. We help businesses, schools, building owners, and governments reduce their energy usage and maintenance costs by upgrading their facilities to LED. We are not selling lamps and ballasts, we focus on projects. Being a rebate sponsor also allows us to get out clients additional money when they reduce their energy usage. We are known for our very thorough assessments we provide each property, the lighting design we do in house, our highly professional installation team, and our expertise in all things lighting. We spend a lot of resources in education and training to make sure we are always on the forefront of the industry.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We hope to continue to be the number one lighting company in the Houston market and will be expanding to future markets when the time is right.
