Meet Andrew Nguyen of Jung Do Taekwondo Academy

Today we’d like to introduce you to Andrew Nguyen.

Hi Andrew, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I started doing Martial Arts at the age of 8 and Taekwondo is my primary style. I’ve trained in Kung Fu, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Muay Thai alongside my 22-year career in Taekwondo. I love all styles of martial arts and view them as equals. I’ve competed in many Taekwondo competitions ever since the start winning numerous sparring matches and form demonstrations. I now own a Taekwondo school and coach my students in their competitions. The journey never ends as I get to pass on my knowledge and experience to my students.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The journey has been tough. Covid-19 was the biggest struggle. We’re just now coming out from the downfall. We went from nearly 100 students down to ten because of the pandemic. Another struggle is also starting a business from the ground up. Coming up with a system is still a work in progress.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Jung Do Taekwondo Academy?
We are a Martial Arts school that specializes in teaching Olympic-style Taekwondo. What sets us from others is we are family owned and take pride in knowing each individual student personally. We build a strong relationship with our students and parents to personalize every curriculum tailored to each student. We’re proud being able to spread our experience to everyone while training them to be the best athlete possible. We teach all ages as young as 4 years old all the way up to adults and families.

We’d love to hear about how you think about risk taking?
Risk taking is something we carefully monitor. Some major risk in the Taekwondo sport is sparring and competitions. There’s always a risk for injuries in a full-contact sport. Through careful training and extensive drilling, we can minimize those risks by having each student/competitor protect themselves inside the ring.
