Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Reign.
Hi Angel, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I grew up in poverty and became a mother at 15 years old. Like many women, I spent most of my life taking care of everyone else before I ever learned how to take care of myself. I was married for 20 years, raised three daughters, and spent years chasing stability. Along the way, I worked my way up from humble beginnings to become a Senior Branch Manager at a bank and later found success as a day trader. From the outside, it looked like I had everything figured out.
But life has a way of forcing us to face ourselves.
I battled obesity, eventually reaching nearly 300 pounds. I struggled with bipolar disorder and ADHD. I survived abuse, heartbreak, and some of the darkest chapters of my life. For a long time, I lived according to what everyone else needed me to be instead of who I truly was.
Everything changed when I made the decision to start living authentically.
What began as a poem written during one of the most difficult periods of my life eventually became my first song. When I couldn’t find opportunities, I created them. When I couldn’t find stages willing to play my music, I became a DJ and played it myself. That journey led me into music, content creation, videography, and building a personal brand as the Digital Scene Queen.
Today, I perform as DJ Queen Blaze and create music as Angel Reign. My debut song was built around an original beat from legendary producer Zaytoven, a moment that felt impossible not long ago. Beyond music, I create promotional content for businesses, artists, and events while continuing to grow as an entrepreneur and creative.
My greatest passion, however, is Crown Connect 33, the soon to be nonprofit organization I am building to help others discover their purpose, develop their talents, and create opportunities for themselves. The butterfly has become a symbol of my journey because I believe in the Butterfly Effect—the idea that one small act of encouragement, kindness, or opportunity can completely change the course of someone’s life.
My story isn’t about becoming famous. It’s about transformation. It’s about proving that no matter where you start, how much you’ve struggled, or how many times life knocks you down, you can still reinvent yourself. Today, I am finally living for myself—and helping others find the courage to do the same, claim their crowns, and build lives they truly love.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
It definitely has not been a smooth road.
Some of my earliest challenges started before I was even old enough to understand them. I grew up in poverty and became a mother at 15 years old. Learning how to raise three daughters was difficult enough, but I was also trying to learn how to navigate life myself. I didn’t have a blueprint. I had to figure things out as I went.
As a teenager, I was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and ADHD. For years, I struggled with balancing my mental health while carrying the responsibilities of adulthood, motherhood, and eventually leadership roles in my career. There were times when simply making it through the day felt like an accomplishment.
I also battled obesity and eventually reached nearly 300 pounds. Losing the weight wasn’t just a physical transformation—it was an emotional and mental one as well. It forced me to confront a lot of things I had spent years avoiding.
Another major challenge was overcoming an abusive relationship and learning my own worth again. When you’ve spent years living for everyone else, it can be difficult to remember who you are outside of the roles you play for other people.
Professionally, one of the biggest obstacles has been entering the music industry later in life. The entertainment world often makes people feel like there is an expiration date on dreams, especially for women. I started pursuing music, DJing, content creation, and building my personal brand at an age when many people think they should be slowing down, not starting over.
I faced rejection, self-doubt, financial struggles, and people who didn’t take me seriously. When I couldn’t get opportunities, I had to create them myself. When I couldn’t get my music played, I became a DJ. When I couldn’t find enough visibility, I learned videography, marketing, and content creation. Every obstacle forced me to develop a new skill.
Looking back, I wouldn’t change any of it. Those struggles gave me resilience, empathy, and a deeper understanding of what it means to reinvent yourself. They are also the reason I am so passionate about helping others through Crown Connect 33. I know firsthand what it feels like to need someone to believe in you, and now I want to be that person for others!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I am a multidisciplinary creative, entrepreneur, and community builder. Most people know me as DJ Queen Blaze, recording artist Angel Reign, and the Digital Scene Queen, but what I really specialize in is creating opportunities—both for myself and for others.
My work spans music, DJing, content creation, videography, promotional marketing, and community development. As an artist, I create music rooted in resilience, transformation, and self-discovery. As a DJ, I create experiences that bring people together. As a content creator and videographer, I help businesses, artists, and events turn attention into opportunity through powerful visual storytelling.
What makes my journey unique is how much has happened in such a short period of time. In roughly the past year and a half, I have written, recorded, and released my very first song, got a legend to compose the beat (Zaytoven) become a DJ, appeared on television for the first time on CW39 Houston, become a brand ambassador, built a growing career in content creation and videography, and grown my social media presence to more than 46,000 followers across Instagram and TikTok.
The most incredible part is that none of this existed in my life a few years ago. I didn’t grow up in the music industry. I didn’t go to school for marketing. I didn’t have a blueprint for becoming an artist, DJ, content creator, or entrepreneur. I simply decided to stop waiting for opportunities and start creating them.
Every new skill led to another door opening. Music led to DJing. DJing led to content creation. Content creation led to marketing opportunities. Marketing led to television appearances and brand partnerships. What started as a personal journey of transformation became a mission to inspire others to pursue their own dreams, no matter where they are starting from.
At the heart of everything I do is a philosophy I call the Butterfly Effect. I believe that one conversation, one opportunity, one encouraging word, one song, or one act of kindness can completely change the direction of someone’s life. That belief is the foundation behind Crown Connect 33 and the reason I continue to create, perform, mentor, and build community. Success means very little to me if I can’t use it to help someone else discover their purpose, pursue their dreams, and claim their crown.
I am especially proud of Crown Connect 33, the nonprofit organization I am building to help people discover their purpose, develop their talents, and create opportunities for themselves. Whether someone is an artist, entrepreneur, survivor, parent, or simply someone trying to rebuild their life, I want them to know that transformation is possible.
What sets me apart is that I don’t fit into a single category. I am not just an artist, a DJ, a content creator, or an entrepreneur—I am living proof that reinvention has no age limit. My brand is built on authenticity, resilience, and the belief that every person deserves the chance to claim their crown and live a life that genuinely fulfills them.
If my story proves anything, it’s that your past does not determine your future. Sometimes the most powerful chapter of your life begins when everyone else thinks the story is already written.
Before we let you go, we’ve got to ask if you have any advice for those who are just starting out?
If I could give one piece of advice to anyone just starting out, it would be this: stop waiting for permission.
Too many people spend years convincing themselves they’re too old, too young, too broke, too different, too late, or not qualified enough to pursue what they really want. The truth is, there will always be a reason not to start if you’re looking for one.
I started pursuing music, DJing, content creation, and building my brand later in life. According to a lot of people, I should have missed my window. I didn’t. I simply decided to stop letting other people’s opinions determine my future.
Another thing I wish I knew sooner is that authenticity is a superpower. Throughout my journey, people constantly told me what I should do, how I should act, what I should say, how long my messages should be, how I should present myself, and who I should become in order to be successful. The funny thing is that many of my biggest opportunities came when I ignored that advice and simply showed up as myself.
A perfect example is the crown I wear when I DJ. When I first started, people told me not to do it. They said it would look silly, that people wouldn’t take me seriously, or that other women might be offended by it. I listened to the advice—and then did it anyway.
Today, the crown has become one of the things I’m most recognized for. The people who connect with it the most are often women themselves. What some people saw as a reason to blend in became one of the reasons I stand out. I’ve always joked that if I was designing my dream career, why wouldn’t I choose one where I get to wear a crown every day? More importantly, the crown represents something bigger: the belief that everyone deserves to recognize their own value and claim their crown.
I’m goofy. I’m passionate. I’m emotional. I care deeply about people. I tell long stories. I wear my heart on my sleeve. For a long time, I thought those things were weaknesses. Today, I realize they’re some of my greatest strengths.
The world doesn’t need another copy of someone who already exists. It needs the version of you that nobody else can be.
I also believe in learning as much as possible for yourself. Don’t be afraid to learn new skills. If you need marketing, learn marketing. If you need content, learn content creation. If you need a website, learn websites. Every skill you acquire becomes another key that unlocks a door someone else might have kept closed.
One resource I recommend to almost everyone is the book Atomic Habits by James Clear. Anyone looking to change their life is really looking to change their habits. That book completely changed how I view growth, discipline, and personal transformation. It taught me that small actions, repeated consistently, can completely transform your future. It is one of the most impactful books I have ever read, and I recommend it to anyone who wants to make positive changes in their life.
Most importantly, remember that dreams do not have expiration dates. Whether you’re 18 or 80, your next chapter can be bigger than anything you’ve done before. Bet on yourself, stay authentic, keep learning, and don’t let fear make decisions that belong to your future.
The life you want may be on the other side of one brave decision.
