Meet Angelica Hodges of Simply Delicious Nutrition in Crosby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Hodges.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Angelica. So, let’s start at the beginning, and we can move on from there.
My journey to health is never ending! However, I did come to a concise decision after working for my local chiropractor after a few months. Not only did chiropractic really help me, but I also discovered CrossFit around the same time, and it completely changed my form in the gym!

Experiencing a more “natural” way to health inspired me to seek more knowledge in that field. I looked up a few schools and different routes to take and decided that the Nutritional Therapy Association was the best fit for me. I wasn’t but a month or so into my schooling when I opened Simply Delicious Nutrition.

Actually, this whole idea came about from my husband!! We were in the middle of our very first paleo challenge (about five years ago now) when he told me people from the gym need help meal prepping, and he told me to try it. He said, “I love your food, and I’m sure they would too.”

So without a whole lot of thought, I posted some pictures and started taking orders. Fast forward a few years, and we opened our first kitchen in our local town! We have a much more clear vision of what the company is all about as well. I want to help people.

I want to create a healthier generation of kids, help families in an area that we seem to struggle with too often. I want to change the way we think of health, by changing the way we think of our food. We keep things simple, and full of flavor! Everything done in our kitchen is with love, compassion, and a lot of thought to keep meals balanced and nutrient dense.

As for myself and my family at home, we are still on that path to better health. We learn more about our bodies every day, and I’m just hoping that my kids will see our choices and want to make mimic us and make great choices for themselves when they get older.

We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Not at all! Running a business is hard. I undervalued myself at first, I didn’t want people to pass me up because my prices were too high and I wanted to give people more, so they were satisfied with my work! I over-served and way undercharged. That is a hard lesson learned, but after graduating from school and doing a bit of surveying of my competitors, I realized I needed to make a few changes.

Firstly, price accordingly! Setting a budget for marketing and really finding my target audience. Learning to take criticism, because not everyone is going to buy into what I’m doing. There have been plenty of people tell me I’m charging too much for what I do, or I’m not offering a wide enough variety of foods, etc. The truth is, once I learned my target audience and to value my education and experience the rest has been a bit smoother.

So, as you know, we’re impressed with Simply Delicious Nutrition – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
Simply Delicious Nutrition is a nutrition-based meal prep service. As a certified nutritional therapy practitioner, I always focus on nutrient density. We offer pre-made and portioned meals to the Houston area. We offer meals that are paleo, keto, and gluten-free friendly.

We also provide private chef services to families who do want to eat better but would like to create a menu together. We’ve been featured at wellness retreats, and offer corporate wellness lunches. We specialize in creating nutrient dense, tasty meals! I think we’re known best for our shepherd’s pie and almond butter chocolate chip cookies, paleo friendly of course.

I think what sets us apart is the knowledge and passion behind the meals. The standards at which we set for each meal we create, or how we shop for our food. Local is always our first option, organic whenever possible, and seasonal produce is a must! We compost as much as possible, and try to recycle as best we can.

Other than our containers, the individual containers, we stay away from plastics! Our family style prep we offer glass containers, and our orders are packed in reusable bags!!

So, what’s next? Any big plans?
The future is always hard to predict, but we have no plans to stop growing! We do plan to offer cooking classes and more content for our customers. Who knows, if all goes well we might just open a second location!

Pricing:

  • Prices start at $8 a meal
  • Family style meals start at $20 a meal
