Today we’d like to introduce you to Angelica Ramos Chbihi.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Angelica. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Thanks so much for giving me the opportunity to share my story. My love of cakes and cupcakes began when I was in between jobs. I was a newlywed, freshly back from my honeymoon, sending out resumes and watching cake decorating shows in my free time. One of my good friends was having a Birthday dinner and I decided to surprise her with a small handbag cake. It turned out awesome! We were all amazed and I was proud of my work, especially since it was my first time making a carved cake.
That got the ball rolling and I dove headfirst into as many cake books and cake tutorials as I could! As time went by, I learned new techniques and we even opened our first Brick and Mortar. Unfortunately, the timing wasn’t right and we closed our doors. The heartache was real and it was a tough season but after a much needed break and lots of prayer, I’m back baby!
I am thrilled to see what the future holds for Habibi Cakes and I am thankful for the doors God has opened. I’m also grateful for my family and friends who have always believed in me.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The most important lesson I’ve learned in my baking journey is to surround myself with people who truly believe in me and push me to grow even when times get tough. I’ve learned that failure, even though it hurts to the core, is not the end but the beginning of a new season. Pursue your dream, work hard, if you fail – don’t stay there – get up and try again until you make it happen.
We’d love to hear more about your business.
We are not your typical bakery. We are the 1st Chocoflan Cupcake Bakery in Houston! I am especially proud of the new line of Mexican inspired cupcakes because they represent my Mexican American culture. These flavors include Chocoflan, Tres Leches and Gansito, just to name a few.
I am working on a few Moroccan inspired flavors to represent my husbands culture as well —that’s where our name, Habibi Cakes derived from.
We also make custom novelty cakes. Our favorite cakes are the kind that appear to stand, float or look like giant food.
We bake from scratch with organic milk, flour, sugar and cruelty free pasture raised eggs. Vegan options are available.
You can find us at Markets or Pop Ups throughout the Houston area. Follow us on Insta or Facebook for locations or if you can’t wait, contact us to place a cake or cupcake order.
