Meet Anna McNally of Southern Heart CPR and First Aid

Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna McNally.

Hi Anna, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
I am originally from the state of Indiana. I moved to Houston, TX, a little over a year ago. I have spent my career in nursing, starting as a certified nursing assistant. I quickly moved into new roles as a nurse, eventually landing in healthcare management. Since moving to Houston, I quickly noticed a gap and lack of quality education for the public and professionals in the area. My drive is to educate students to feel competent and prepared to provide emergency intervention to those experiencing cardiac arrest.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It has been easy to teach and connect with students. However, for me, the business aspect is new and challenging. Many CPR companies gatekeep, and there are not many people who are willing to give open, honest, and helpful advice to entrepreneurs like me.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My organization is female/nurse owned and operated. I take pride in giving small, detail-oriented classes that focus on providing care to not only men but women. I have a more modern/comfortable setting that is more relatable for younger health professionals and community members to promote engagement in youth. I currently offer American Heart Association courses, including; HeartSaver (basic first aid/CPR/AED), Basic Life Support, and Advanced Cardiac Life Support classes.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Success for me is seeing my students succeed in their workplaces and communities. My favorite thing to hear in my classes is, ‘no one ever taught me this before, or ‘I did not know that. Success is giving growth and expanding on my students’ knowledge base and making them confident, assertive, and prepared for the situations they are likely to face.
