Today we’d like to introduce you to Anna Sandberg.
Anna, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
Pursuing my life-long interest in design, I received an associate degree in computer animation before I decided that interior design was the industry for me. I graduated from Savannah College of Art and Design with a major in interior design and a minor in fibers. Savannah, Georgia is a fantastic city and studying at SCAD was an amazing experience.
I didn’t originally have plans to start my own company. That was something that developed when someone asked me to help them redesign their space. My first client introduced me to my second client, and I built my company mostly from referrals. I feel fortunate to be able to have my own company and to work directly with my clients. A M Sandberg (formerly known as A+U Design Studio, LLC) officially started in 2014, so we will be celebrating our 7th year in business in the first quarter of 2021.
My company has gone through many changes, and I have gained from hands-on experience, learning what works and what doesn’t, to mold the company into its best version with that experience in mind. We offered interior design and construction services for three years and did complete turn-key remodels with a heavy focus on interior design from start to finish. I am able to work closely and efficiently with our clients’ contractors and builders because of my experience in the construction industry.
When COVID hit, it gave me time to reinvent A M Sandberg. I realized that many of our clients wanted to be more involved in the design process. Our E-Design capabilities are a way to incorporate the client’s involvement and offer a more cost-effective way for people to obtain professional design services that are as streamlined as possible for their needs. My goal was to create a la carte digital interior design services (along with our full-service design services) to cater to a much wider range of clientele and to be able to work with clients both nationally and internationally. We offer services ranging from a color consultation via phone, to fireplace design, to our full-service digital design package. One of our new services is digital staging for real estate. After working in staging and having our own staging inventory to pull from, we know that creating a stunning visual helps potential purchasers envision the space more as their own and helps sell the property faster. We work to be competitive with our digital design pricing and are now offering our digital staging services for $350 per room.
It took me some time to explore different areas of design and to fully realize that interior design was my true calling, but I would not take away any of the time that journey took. As long as you continue to learn, grow and explore, I truly believe that you will find where you are meant to be in life. I am excited for what the future will bring!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Building my company has been both challenging and rewarding. When I started in 2014, I did not have a real project to show potential clients so it was very hard to prove that I would be able to successfully handle their job. I kept networking and making connections and I finally started to get clients that gave me a chance without a solid portfolio and that is how I was able to build my business from there. I have been in business for almost seven years and am still learning every day. Everything is a learning curve, to some extent, and there will always be better, more efficient ways of doing things that you will discover along the way.

A M Sandberg specializes in interior design and we design custom products for our clients, as often as the project allows for it. We have created branding for clients’ personal and professional needs when someone asks for that specifically. My design style is modern and I love to use bold colors and shapes. My favorite style of design is mid-century modern. One thing that I am proud of is being able to build a close business relationship with our clients so that they trust me when working with their space and new designs. A couple of things that set us apart are the level of attention to detail that we put into everything that we do and the ability to interpret what our clientele are needing and wanting.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
This year our company has rebranded, changed some of our services, and shifted in an exciting new direction. My plans are to educate as many people as possible about how our E-Design services can benefit them. We will continue to build our portfolio by catering to more digital design clients and work with clients all over the world. The addition of our digital interior design services has opened up a new chapter in what we can offer our clientele.
