Today we’d like to introduce you to Anthony Garcia.
Anthony, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started DJing in 2012, but I have been involved with music at a young age. I started playing trumpet in intermediate school and played all through college. I also took private lessons to learn the piano and did that for about a year. During Highschool, I started playing salsa, Latin Jazz and wanted to learn as much as I could. I then started learning a variety of instruments in Highschool and college. I always loved hand drums, and because of salsa, I learned the conga. Because of that and all everything I was learning, I wanted to make my beats, remix songs or mix songs together. In 2012 I bought my first Dj equipment and would practice every day for hours and most of the day until I became decent at it. Within my first year, I started doing weddings, private events, birthdays, etc. In 2014 a good friend of mine who was djing at all the clubs in Houston invited me to watch him. I would go every chance I got. I eventually got asked if I wanted to cover for him. I was so nervous and didn’t know if I could do it. Knowing I was going to play in front of hundreds of people got to me. I was excited, nervous, all of my emotions came out at once, but this was something I wasn’t going to turn down. I still remember that day playing, and it turned out even better than I imagined. From then, I would get invited back to cover and eventually started to get known around the area. Six years later, I’ve DJed at different clubs, for team members from our Houston professional sports teams, and currently hold a residency at Hightower midtown.
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I’ve learned that being in this industry has its ups and downs. I think being able to push through those struggles and handle it the best way you can is what matters. This is a passion of mine and something that I love, so for me I will always push through any struggle because, in the long run, it will all pay off.
Anthony Adam – what should we know? What do you guys do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Every DJ has their way of playing, but I think how you play and handle a crowd is something that will set you apart and what people will know you for. I’m proud that I’m able to DJ every week still. It’s a blessing in itself to do what you love.
What is “success” or “successful” for you?
If I can do something that I love, share it with someone, if they love being around it, and it makes some impact on them. Then that for me is the best type of success. Do something you love and share it with the world.
