Meet April Green

Today we’d like to introduce you to April Green

Hi April, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
My now 17 year old son, whom was born with a very rare syndrome as well as Autism was both physically and mentally abused by his teacher when he was in the 9th grade. He has been receiving academic services at home; however I was very concerned with his lack of social and life skills. Because JoJo was getting older, I wanted him to have some level of independence but because of distrust I didn’t want him to be away from me for long periods of time. I’ve also always wanted him to have his own business. So, JoJo’s Raceway was formed in Sept. 2020 to bring smiles to kid’s faces. We deliver inflatable racetracks with bumper cars, racers, and ATV’s for children’s parties, church events, and daycares. Our goal is to hire other individuals with special needs as well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It hasn’t always been smooth, but we have a lot of family support. It’s been difficult at times, to be a mother, teacher, and job coach all at one time. But it’s worth it to see how accomplished JoJo feels at the end of the work day!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a certified teacher. I taught for 18 + years. Then I became a Case Manager for other parents of children with special needs. Graduated in Dec 2019 with a master’s in Special Education. I’m most proud of being an advocate for my son and other children with special needs.

What makes you happy?
It makes me happy, when my loved ones are happy. I get the most joy from seeing my children, husband, and other family members happy. One of the reasons that JoJo’s Raceway was created, was to bring happiness to others.
