Today we’d like to introduce you to Ariane Compton.
Ariane, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My hometown is New Orleans, LA. I moved because of Hurricane Katrina. I started doing my own hair as a lil girl because I hate getting a perm and sitting at the hair dresser for hours, so I used to stand in the mirror for hours learning to braid my own hair as we all know it wasn’t as perfect, but it was perfect for me at the time because I did it. I used to work at a dollar general for a couple of years, and one day I was like I’m going to take off three days so I can braid my own hair and that was the best day of my life (why) because when I got back to work people asked me who did my hair and I would say me!! People started asking me how much I charged, so I would charge $80 to get me by the week when I didn’t have money after paying bills. One day I realize how much money I was making daily and quit my job and started doing hair full time out of my apartment. Fast Forward as of today, I’m in the place of my life because I didn’t stop pushing, and Now I’m able to help other people that look up to me to believe that no matter what you go through, always follow your dreams!!
Has it been a smooth road?
It wasn’t as smooth because at first I didn’t have much family support, and I was in a Abusive relationship, so I had to get out of that situation first to follow my dream and know what I was passionate about. So now, after two years, my business is becoming what I always have vision it to be.
Please tell us about your work.
I specialize in saving hair/edges. I have learn how to do my own hair first so I always hated that my braids would always be to tight when I got them done so I learn a Technique where you don’t have any tension at all after getting your hair done by me, and that’s what sets me apart from a lot of styles. I’m most proud of that I learned everything on my own without having to go in debt.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
I love Houston that’s what pays me so I’m forever grateful.
