Today we’d like to introduce you to Dr. Arlether Wilson.
Dr. Wilson, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I grew up in a small community in Houston, Texas, known as Fifth Ward. I don’t know how I knew it, but I always knew that I could achieve all of my dreams. Today, I feel honored to help other people achieve their own goals. I started my career in law enforcement. I proudly served the public for nearly two decades and during my tenure, I became a victims’ advocate, That journey reignited my dream of becoming a psychologist. I continued to work s a police officer while I completed my doctoral requirements.
In 2016, almost seven years later, I graduated with my doctorate in counseling psychology. After that, I have worked in hospital, rehabilitation, correctional, and private practices settings. Then in 2017, I partnered with two colleagues to open Awakened Mind, PLLC, I enjoyed the experience and opportunities, I decided to take a leap of faith and establish my own private practice. In doing so, I wanted to merge my previous experience in law enforcement with my new career as a therapist.
Therefore in 2019, I opened Wilson Psychological & Forensic Services, LLC. It is a full-service mental health, forensics and life coaching practice servicing the Houston, Missouri City, Sugar Land, Richmond, Rosenberg, Katy, and Pearland, Texas areas. We offer therapy for people seeking help with emotional and mental challenges. We specialize in the treatment of issues such as depression, anxiety, panic disorders, grief, trauma, mood disorders, anger management and addiction. We also offer several types of evaluations and assessments, including substance abuse, TX DOT SAP, immigration, domestic violence (VAWA), psychological, vocational/career and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) evaluations.
I have received numerous accolades, but I am most proud of my award-winning memoir titled “Rewriting the Script,” which will be re-released soon, a Co-Author and Amazon Best Selling author of 20 Beautiful Women. I’ve been a contributor for Huffington Post. I am also an advisory board member for the PIMA Institute.
Has it been a smooth road?
I believe the greatest challenge was time management and the lack of financial resources. I can be difficult to work a full-time job and complete a terminal degree. Once the educational and exam requirements are behind you, the hands on training is required. Unfortunately, most internship salaries are not enough for a family to live on. Once the business was formed it took a while to get on insurance panels. Honestly, my dedication and persistence allowed me to accomplish everything.

I love that our city is so diverse. There are so many business and networking opportunities in the Houston area and we have some of the best cuisines. The traffic is always a problem.
