Today we’d like to introduce you to Sarah B. Lowe.
The Art Cellar of Houston’s owner, Sarah, joined forces with Guerra Studio’s owner, Marco Guerra, to create “ART IS AN Outdoor Market”, bringing artists of all flavors, from all sides of Houston. One can expect to experience flower vendors, food and coffee vendors, artists of various styles including painters, sewistas, vintage clothing and jewelry dealers, sculptors, woodworkers, print makers, leather makers, metal workers, quilters, candle makers, soap makers, apothecaries, and many more artisans. The concept behind this market is to showcase local Houston Artists and Artisans to the residents of the Energy Corridor. Sarah, originally from Lafayette [Louisiana], began attending local festivals at a very early age, where art and music are a part of life. The idea for this market stems from those internationally attended festivals. Marco Guerra of “Guerra Studios” grew up in a small ranching town in South Texas and later studied Communication Arts at The University of Texas at San Antonio. His love for design, paired with years of illustration and fine art experience, add to this market, his unique style. In December 2016, the team stumbled upon Republic Square, while seeking a venue to host the new art market. The lakefront, picturesque property of Republic Square proved to be the perfect backdrop for a European-styled art market. As a team, the companies work to bring the “arts” to the residents of West Houston; Rather than everyone driving to down town, Heights, Montrose, or the Museum District for this experience. The Energy Corridor District’s lifestyle is multi-cultural. Bringing a multi-cultural art experience similar to markets found in Europe, South Texas, and Southwest Louisiana, all wrapped into one is the overall objective. After Hurricane Harvey’s devastation of our neighborhoods and Republic Square, ART IS AN Outdoor Market had to find a new venue on very short notice. The market moved to Grisby Square, thanks to help of the fabulous team at Hospitality USA and Watson’s Pub. ART IS AN Outdoor Market could not have asked for a more magnificent rescue. They look forward to continuing their relationship with these amazing local businesses, to grow this art market into an internationally attended festival.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
All markets have their challenges; however, this market has been fun and exciting every step of the way. Meeting new vendors, artists, artisans, and small mom and shop owners has been amazing. After Hurricane Harvey’s devastation of our neighborhoods, our market moved to Grisby Square, thanks to help of the fabulous team at Hospitality USA and Watson’s Pub. We could not have asked for a more magnificent rescue. We look forward to continuing our relationship with these amazing local businesses, and spreading the word about every local treasure to the residents of Houston and beyond.
Please tell us about The Art Cellar of Houston and Guerra Studios.
The Art Cellar of Houston is committed to hosting public and private parties for any occasion including Corporate Team Building, Bachelor/Bachelorette parties, Graduation, Birthdays for Adults and Children, Ladies Night Out, Date Night, Corporate and School Fundraisers or Events, and Wedding Receptions. We are mobile, and aim to provide the most pleasurable painting parties and events in the Houston, Cypress, spring, Humble, Galveston, Katy and surrounding areas. Our motto is #makeityourown, which is our concentration for each class; to ensure every participant understands how they can make each creation their own. While many wine and painting studios focus on acrylic painting only, we work to bring a wide range of artistic projects to provide those interested in learning (i.e. Painting on Wine glasses, Paint on Tile with Alcohol Ink, Watercolor, Pastels, Sketching, Acrylic Pours and more). Sarah Lowe works diligently to learn the art community, after working a successful career in the Commercial Insurance Industry. Sarah now handles corporate team building events for companies such as Schlumberger, Schneider Electric, various Women’s Groups throughout Houston, Cypress, and Galveston, Texas. In addition, event planning for the Energy Corridor District, Republic Square, and Hospitality USA, are a few shareable moments.

What role has luck (good luck or bad luck) played in your life and business?
With good comes bad, like in all walks of life. We have been able to work with great organizations throughout the City of Houston and beyond. It has been great to see growth with our market, but as we have all been witness to the past few months with Hurricane Harvey, no one can stop mother nature. We are truly blessed and have enjoyed every moment of our journey and to have an establishment step in, to support the market when we needed a venue change
