Today we’d like to introduce you to Art Hernandez.
Art, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I started my career in January 2000, actually New Years Eve for a family event using our home JVC Stereo that would shut down when the music was too loud! My first years were spent as a club DJ in Waelder, Texas. The club was called Johnny’s and we would fill it to capacity every weekend. The style of music I was playing was 10 years ahead of some of the mainstream radio stations. I was known as the “Non- Stop” DJ!
As a father of two beautiful children and a supportive wife I was faced with trying to expand beyond the club, not only financially but spiritually. I could have settled with my current status but as I have taught my children, why settle when there is so much more to accomplish in life. The next five years we endured a series of events that left me second guessing my decision to continue my business. Once we overcame the growing pains I was able to support my family off the business.
In the past years, I have booked a variety of musicians, hosted festivals, and made donations for worthy causes. Currently, I stay booked with private events (weddings, parties, etc.) 25-40 times a year. Keep in mind there are only 52 weekends in a calendar year. The key to my success is to not be afraid to step outside your comfort zone and learn from your mistakes. Recently, I did an event that helped me realize that to stay ahead of the game, you cannot be afraid to reinvent yourself especially after reaching your goals!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I struggled with the constant desire for the latest and greatest equipment in the business which can cause a financial strain. As the years progressed I finally realized that it was never the equipment that made me the Entertainer I am today!
The greatest challenge I face is competition pricing. When we first started this journey, there weren’t many people in the immediate area providing the same service. We can all have similar tools, but it’s how these tools are used that make your service stand out in a saturated market. Always stay true to yourself, and know that those sacrifices hurt us all in the end.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Hernandez Entertainment – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
We use the word Entertainment in your brand, because that is exactly what we do, we entertain. Our quality of equipment, customer service, and me being just a tad “OCD” helps us strive for excellence.
Our success is not only measured by the demand for our services, but by the learning experiences we have encountered along the way.
Hernandez Entertainment believes in Business first, Friendship second!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We are looking to expand our services online, ecommerce presence, and possibly move into a market that we have been eying for some time. One thing for sure is whatever happens next will be a blessing.
