Meet Ashante’ Flowers of Sassy Chick Bartending Service

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashante’ Flowers.

Ashante’, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was 20 and I just had my daughter my boyfriend at the time now husband Sedrick was in college but played football so he couldn’t work so that put a lot of the responsibility on me financially. I started working at a bar in Austin as a waitress and the manager Dave took me under his wing and taught me how to bartend and run a bar. My love for bartending started then. One day a customer asked me to work his girlfriend’s birthday party. I wasn’t sure what to expect but I came overly prepared. At the end of the night they kept telling me how much they loved me and that’s when I decided this is what I wanted to do. I wanted a name with meaning and that would be catchy. Sassy which means lively bold and full of spirit is exactly describes me and what a great bartender should be. I started doing a few events here and there and it’s not till my husband started working I was able to quit my job at the bar and put my full focus into sassy chicks.

Once I was able to be fully funded by my investor husband, I was ready to open up fully. I just had my son and was ready to make a name for myself. I decided I wanted to break into the wedding field. That is one of the toughest groups to break into everyone in the business likes to use who they know. So, year 1 was slow and a little discouraging. But the beginning of year two I was able to book a wonderful wedding with some really great vendors and my business relationships started to form. They loved our name to the way we worked. Now that I come up on year three, I’m learning so much more about the wedding industry and about booking corporate events. I’m booking like crazy. This has been a crazy ride but I never gave up. We now do birthday parties, corporate events, bachelorette parties, bachelor parties, grand openings and so much more My passion for bartending and interacting with guest is so deep. I know that when I wake up every day, I’m doing something I absolutely love and makes me happy to my core.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been an easy road. Rejection is the major problem I was having. When your new nobody wants to work with you because you don’t have a portfolio and reliable reviews. Reaching out to venues and trying to work with them a lot of them told me know. It’s crazy when I think back on it because a lot of the venues that rejected me, I’m now on their preferred vendor list.

We’d love to hear more about the company.
We are an all-inclusive mobile bartending company. We have packages that range from bartender only where the host buys all the liquor and we mix it to our hot bar packages.

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
I would’ve taken help when people offered but other than that I wouldn’t change anything. I feel like I wouldn’t be where I am now if I changed something, I wouldn’t appreciate it as much.
