Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashlee Cantu.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashlee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
For as long as I can remember, my parents owned rental properties. When I was younger, I used to dread the move out process for tenants. We would spend our weekend replacing carpet, cleaning and making the homes move in ready for the next tenant. When I got older, I began to understand the process a little better and started thinking “this isn’t that bad, it’s actually cool being able to help families find homes”. After high school, I began my career in marketing and sales at Corner Bakery Cafe, and shortly after I became the General Manager. In 2014, I officially partnering with my mom in the rental properties. In 2018, my mom and I purchased a run-down home to Fix and flip. At 24, I was the General Manager, rental property owner/manager, and real estate investor. In October 2018, I earned my real estate license and decided, this was my thing- I love helping families find their next home.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Definitely not! It has not been easy. With all of the real estate shows on HGTV, it looks like a walk in the park and a quick way to get paid. As a Realtor, it’s not just opening doors and showing houses. I am a project manager, a negotiator, an emotional rock for my clients- I play so many roles during the home buying/selling process. It can get a bit hectic sometimes but it is all worth it on closing day when I see my clients getting keys to their new home.
We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am a Houston Realtor. As a realtor, my job is to assist clients in buying or selling real estate. I specialize in assisting first-time home buyers find the perfect home while saving them the most money possible. A lot of people do not know that there are Down Payment Assistance programs that are available to cover your entire down payment. Credit score and down payment is the top deterrent for renters but with my help, I can put them on the right path to become a homeowner. I recently purchased my first home in 2018, so I know all of the concerns and questions my clients have. I am here to help educate and find what you need/want in a home. I am dedicated to working diligently for every one of my clients, day and night, I’m always here to help!
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I try not to believe in bad luck. When I feel like things are not going my way, I tend to laugh it off. I have to. One day when I had an open house it seemed like nothing was working in my favor- stepped in an ant pile, tripped over a brick in the backyard, stuttering over my words in a video. All I could do was laugh about it and go about my day if said “omg I have such bad luck” I think I would have continued to have a bad day because I’m speaking it into existence. The harder you work and the more positive you are, the more “good luck” you’ll seem to run into.
