Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Barnett.
Ashley, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
At one point in life, my heart’s desire was to be either an Estate Planning or an Entertainment Lawyer. I never thought I’d be a Fashion Stylist. I will never forget the day when I was in high school and I was standing in my bedroom closet looking at all the pictures of celebrities dressed fashionable that I had cut and tapped to my closet door.
I dreaded the thought of attending college for several years to become a Lawyer. So, I decided that day, that I would rather work in the fashion industry and one day have my own clothing boutique as I was really passionate about fashion and the variety of ways one could express their style.
I started working at the age of 16 for a clothing retail store and as a result, I have about 15 years of retail management. I have worked for low end brands up to high-end brands.
In 2013, I obtained my undergrad in Business Management from University of Houston Downtown. Entrepreneurship runs in my family, so in 2014 I decided to start my online clothing boutique. I figured I should put my undergrad degree as well as my retail management experience to good use.
I met so many people throughout the years and I came to realize that I truly enjoyed suggesting different outfit options to men and women whenever they shopped with me. The ability to pull looks together just comes to me naturally. As a result, ABarnettStyle was birthed.
I wasn’t very sure of how the business side of Fashion Styling worked. I attended a fashion styling boot camp course with one of the industries most well known Celebrity Fashion Stylists. I gained so much knowledge from the boot camp that I have been able to implement with ABarnett Style. The “A” in ABarnettStyle stands for my first name, Ashley and then followed by my last name, Barnett. There is no better joy than being able to use my gifts.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
No, absolutely not!
A few struggles along the way has been building clientele, networking and simply staying consistent. Building relationships within your industry as well as outside of your industry is crucial. It is important to not limit or box how you gain your next client.
Along the way, I struggled with client outreach and marketing. I learned I had to increase my consistency and dedication regardless the flow of business.
ABarnettStyle – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
I am a traveling, Fashion Stylist that specializes in Personal Styling, Photoshoot Styling, Virtual Styling as well as Closet Organization.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
The proudest moment of my career so far has been not only having my business featured but also some of my work as well.
