Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Monee’.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Ashley. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
Let me start by saying that I’m just a woman still trying to figure life out. It’s hard to tell you about my story because this is still only the beginning. I’m not even halfway through yet. However, my story began in Kansas City, Missouri, where I was born and raised. I love my city dearly but I always knew that it wasn’t where I truly belonged. After I graduated from high school, I came to Houston to attend and graduate from Prairie View A&M University. While being a student at PVAMU, I got introduced to modeling. I’ve done numerous fashion shows and photoshoots since. I found it fun but that’s all was to me … just fun. I was actually scouted by a modeling agency at my very last fashion show. I went to the meeting out of curiosity and it was something that the director said to me that inspired me. She said, “at some point, it has to stop being a fun hobby to you. When are you going to start making a living from it?”. I realized that I never had any intentions on making a living out of modeling and declined the offer I was given. I had bigger dreams. My last fashion show also granted me the opportunity to be a creative director as well a project manager over the fashion designers in the show. This made me realize that my passions are in all the aspects that surrounds modeling, especially fashion. I eventually I launched my own fashion boutique called AngelNergy. It’s still in the beginning phases and I am currently re-branding it to take it to new heights but I have high hopes of where it will go. This is truly only the beginning to my story.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
No great story comes without some problems to conquer along the way. It definitely hasn’t been a smooth journey but I also wouldn’t change anything about it. Everything that I have been through has led me to become the woman that I am today, a woman who I am very proud of. My biggest struggle was definitely moving to a new city 12 hours away from my family and having to figure out life on my own. Of course, I had support along the way but I had to discover my true self by myself. There are some situations and decisions that are apart of my journey that I’m not too proud of but I am grateful for it all. I’ve learned, I’ve loved, I’ve hurt, and I’ve struggled but through it all I’ve grown. Honestly, my growth is the most beautiful part of my story.

AngelNergy still has a ways to go to get where I vision it to be. However, it is something great. AngelNergy is an outlet to guide people to their inner angel. What I mean by this is that it is meant to assist people in finding their true selves and expressing it. AngelNergy originally started as a resale fashion boutique. The problem with that is that it lacked heart since it wasn’t my own pieces that I was selling. That lack of heart reflected in the sales. I was disappointed that my first launch had flopped. So I decided to get back to the drawing board. I have recently relaunched AngelNergy and it now consists of clothing pieces all designed and created by myself. We now offer made to order and custom made clothing pieces. AngelNergy will also have a huge twist to it coming soon that is still a surprise. So stay tuned! I’m very excited to showcase all that I have in store.
What were you like growing up?
I’ve always been a girl who had big dreams and was constantly aiming to achieve this, that, and the third. I can’t even name nor count all of the ambitions that I’ve had growing up. I’ve always been chasing after something bigger with the confidence that I could and would achieve it. I’m still like that to this day.
