We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I have experienced ACEs and I don’t believe I acquired the necessary socio-emotional support I so desperately needed. I have experienced emotional and physical abuse. When I went to college, I was unsure of the path I wanted to take. I took a required course in psychology, and given what I learned, I became vastly interest in the study of the mind and human behavior. So, I decided to pursue a career in Psychology and continuing my efforts to obtain the BCBA certification.
Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I provide court-ordered anger management courses as well as courses for drugs and alcohol. I specialize in informed trauma practices in which I believe can be the source of quick triggers that lead to anger. I am most known for my advocacy and promoting socio-emotional learning. I am most proud of the growth my business is experiencing in servicing clients. I do not like to be placed in a box so I am always researching and studying new skills to add to my practice to support the whole well being of a person. The services of rebuilding character not only seeks to reduce recidivism rates of drug and alcohol offenses as well as anger management but to also start with building skills in young children so we do not continue the cycle of school to prison pipeline. That is what sets us apart from others.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
As a young therapist, I was under the supervision of Dr. Kathy Crockett in Jackson, Ms. She is a brilliant mentor/supervisor that challenged my thinking and pushed me beyond my limits. She forced me to think outside the box to provide the best treatment possible based on a client’s needs. I would also credit my spouse for his investment in my education, training, and business.
