Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Spivey.
Hi Ashley, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
We first started Mrs. Claus™ Cookie Company in October of 2019 in hopes of launching in early 2020. As most know COVID-19 hit in March of 2020 and we were not able to get the traction that we wanted. That year we attended multiple farmer’s markets to get our name out there and even joined a couple of Painted Tree stores. Miraculously in August of 2021, a corner spot opened up in the Historic District of Downtown Rosenberg Texas!
With a lot of hard work and a little help from friends and family, we were able to grand open our year-round Christmas store and bakery in November of 2021, just before the Christmas season began. We severely underestimated how many customers we would have during the Christmas season, who would have thought right??? Here we are in 2022 and we have plans of expanding to a second location in 2023 and are increasing our online presence with the ability to order online.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely has not been a smooth road. We are in our first year of owning a brick and mortar and there have been ups and downs. The foot traffic isn’t what we hoped it would be, but we have been knocking it out of the park with custom orders and we know that during the Christmas season, we will reign supreme!
We also have 4 kids, and 3 of them still live at home, ranging in age from 10-14 so on top of running a business, me going back to school, kids, and Mr. Claus still has a full-time job, it’s hectic, to say the least.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved to help out in the kitchen. I can remember the first time I cracked an egg while helping my mom make cookies, and I pushed up instead of down, and the egg went all over my head!!
Baking is one of my creative outlets, sometimes I like to do classic designs and other times I like to go all out and make a statement piece. I am not formally trained, everything I do, I have been self-taught by either experimentation or watching videos online. I make a lot of different sweet treats such as cookies, decorated sugar cookies, pies, cakes, cupcakes, breads, and candies. My specialty is cookies but I do love to make amazing cakes for people because I love seeing them excited and happy.
My favorite dessert item that I have made to date has to be the Legend of Zelda cake that I made for another Zelda fan. I am a huge Legend of Zelda nerd, I even have my own Zelda room that houses all of my collectibles.
Alright, so before we go, can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Honestly, I would love to have a few collaborations under my belt. Having someone review our treats and help us spread the word.
Reviews are always a good way to support us, or even just sharing our posts on social media is extremely appreciated.
