Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Taylor.
Ashley, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
It all started with a baby doll and my mom. Most children give their dolls a name and create a role for them. For me, my dolls were clients and strictly about giving them a hair style! When I turned 10, my mother believed in me so much that she created a space for me in our home to practice. My mom was my first real client and begin to let me cut her hair! A perfectionist by nature I began my endless journey in hair design, preservation, and restoration nearly two decades ago. I debuted professionally in 2004 as a graduate of the Aveda Institute. Countless hours of continuing education, and becoming a certified Hair Practitioner and Hair Replacement Specialist, has allowed me to make women feel and look beautiful no matter how long or how little of hair to work with. Giving confidence has been the ultimate reward for me in this industry! I relocated to the Houston area three years ago, but I’ve been fortunate to maintain my Baton Rouge, Louisiana clients also. Hair is what I LOVE!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Ok! The real struggle came when trying to balance being a wife and mother of two kids! As a Hair Stylist, we play a few roles; we make you feel beautiful and we are also good listeners! Clients confide in us and their burdens become ours! The hair stylist is your “BFF”, the one you tell almost everything! So, imagine a day where the client is sad and all you want to do is make them feel relaxed and provide a place, they can feel safe to vent, and leave uplifted. Then, go home to the energy of kids LOL! So, I to learned to create balance and leave some things at the door.
Please tell us about your business.
I believe what sets me apart, outside of the services I offer, is the hair replacement. Hair loss for women is taboo, so I do my best to ensure the service is and looks natural on the client. I also LOVE bridal styles! The most fun are the ones I get to travel for because I love to travel!
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
I have been working on my own hair line! My website will be launched by the end of summer!
