Today we’d like to introduce you to Ava Bearden.
Hi Ava, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I first started my photography business two years ago, when I was fifteen years old. Ever since I was a child, I always loved making my own little businesses. When I was ten, I had a smoothie stand outside my neighborhood, created my own YouTube channel to help people take care of their pets, and the list goes on. I have always been ambitious and loved seeing what fun things I could create. When I was fifteen, I asked my mom to buy me a camera because I wanted to create a photography business. Never in a million years did I ever think I would have come this far in just two short years. In the first year of my business, I only did about 30 sessions throughout that entire year, and most of them were family or mutual friends. This year, I did over 165 sessions and 10-15 of those were weddings. I am so incredibly blessed to have a full-blown business by the age of 17. All glory to Him.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
In comparison to other photographers, I would say my journey has been remotely smooth. I have had not near as many struggles as some photographers in the industry who struggle to get a steady clientele. The biggest struggle for me. However, it is time management. I am a dual credit student, so it is difficult to manage on average 5-6 shoots a week, plus college courses!
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I am a wedding, a portrait photographer. And by the portrait that includes families, seniors & couples. I am mainly known for all of my portrait work. I am most proud that I have 5 figure businesses at 17 with no previous experience with photography or running a business. What sets me apart from other photographers is the fact that I am as genuine as possible. Yes, I am professional, but I want my clients to get to know me, relate to me, and laugh with me. People would rather work with a photographer who has fun and is engaging during their session and consults than someone who sits and shoots.
Can you talk to us a bit about happiness and what makes you happy?
So many things! I try to find joy in every aspect of life. I have two little brothers that are 13 years younger than me and they are my everything. They want to be “junior photographers” when they get big.
