Meet Aya Washington

Today we’d like to introduce you to Aya Washington.

Aya, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I’m an actress, model, and an artist in every aspect of that idea. I currently reside in Houston, Tx. Originally, I’m from Shreveport, LA where I began acting in local plays written by my mother, who is a Poet. It was then when I fell in love with regurgitating imagery and passion to a willful audience. I started Modeling when I got inspired by a local model, and I began studying and doing multiple photos shoots with different concepts to understand the Art of Modeling. In transition, I moved to Houston where I began taking Acting classes, which helped me build a foundation in Acting and I continued to build my portfolio as a model.

Further along in my career, I began performing in theaters around Houston, which naturally nurtured my ambitions and allowed me to grow exponentially. Challenges found their way into my experience and during that process, I got inspired to create a children’s book entitled “CAN I?”, which I co-wrote with my mother and brother. The book brings awareness to the importance of manifestation in childhood, and warrants attention to sequential thinking before “the coming of age”. Soon after I was published in Astound Fashion magazine. I began to fall in love with film after I started to study the creative process of film making. I began acting in independent films and also worked behind the camera as an associate producer and script supervisor of local independent films. Later as a model, I was published in Ellements magazine. I am now signed with Pastorini- Bosby Talent agency, where I have done a couple of print commercials with Sysco and Nationwide Mutual Ins. and I’m continuously auditioning and seeking new heights each and everyday as an Artist. I am already grateful for the potential of what’s ahead of me.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Not at all! But I am appreciative of bumpy roads because challenges offer a new opportunity to grow. Some of the struggles I’ve experienced along the way was moving at a young age from a small city to the 4th largest city in the world. Which was definitely an adjustment financially and mentally, but consequently I was able to find myself. I also had to nurture my awareness and be vigilant with scammers in this entertainment industry seeking a malleable upcoming artist. Following your dreams can be very exhausting, but also very rewarding, you just have to keep going until you’ve lived the highest version of yourself that God has already planned for you.

We’d love to hear more about your work and what you are currently focused on. What else should we know?
I am in the movie and modeling industry. I am known for my print commercials with Sysco and Nationwide Mutual Ins. Also for my publications in Astound Magazine Aug 2016 issue and Ellements Magazine July 2018 issue. I am most proud of my Faith and my work ethic! My Faith is so broad I am so blessed to visualize and wholeheartedly believe my future is exactly what I’m working for. I’ve always had a great work ethic, I put my all into everything. I am studying, investing in myself and keeping my faith alive and growing to be the best Artist I can be. I am where I am and I’m going where I’m going because of Gods love and what he already has for me is for me.

Is there a characteristic or quality that you feel is essential to success?
The quality I feel that is most important to my success is definitely my work ethic!
