Thanks for sharing your story with us Bee. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I have always had a love for the beauty industry from a very young age. It wasn’t until college that this love turned into a passion. I went away to school to study psychology and on campus, I would do most of the girl’s hair. It had gotten to a point I would leave class to do hair. When I consulted with God about this new passion, I talked with my mom and dad about me wanting to pursue a career in cosmetology and I had their full support. Coming out of cosmetology school, I thought I would jump right into making the big bucks lol. However that wasn’t the route God had for me YET, it was truly humble beginnings. I started at TGF hair salon where I learned to cut men’s hair and a variety of different hair textures. Although this was great training it wasn’t what I had in mind for my brand. Soon after, I decided it was time to step out on faith and gain my own clientele. I began to promote using great tools like Instagram and with that built a successful brand that is continuing to grow. Bee Instyle is a representation of everything I believe in. You want to be in style for yourself and not for anyone else. My mission is to allow women to feel their inner beauty shine out. It brings me much joy to see how far I’ve come and the many connections I make through helping others in their hair journey. I also went back to school to finish my psychology degree and now I am able to delight in both. I am very grateful!
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
Being an entrepreneur is challenging but rewarding. There are times where you feel you aren’t doing enough and then there are times where you’re worn thin. However, in the end, it is all worth it because it’s a marathon and not a race. The main struggle for me, in the beginning, had to be instant gratification. I had long term goals of growth for my salon but because I wanted it right then I was too hard on myself. If I could only go back and tell my 22-year-old self all will be well, that would have been less energy wasted on worrying rather than staying patient.
Please tell us about Bee Instyle Hair Studio.
Bee Instyle Hair Studio is a private solo studio. I specialize in natural hair, custom made wigs, sewins of all types, coloring, cuts, chemical services, bridal hair, set hair(fashion shows, TV), and hair art. I am most proud of the fact that I really have a passion for the care of each clients hair. A lot of the times with getting extensions or various styles it can be taxing on the hair. I set a system in place to ensure the client’s hair is routinely trimmed, deep conditioned and properly moisturized before proceeding with any service. What sets Bee Instyle apart from others would be the environment, I am a family person so you will always get a home vibe with me. I want every woman to come in and leave whatever troubles they have at the door and relax. No drama, no worries.
If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
Honestly no. I thank God for this path. It stretched my faith, it grew me ten feet tall and made me the woman I am today. So, I am thankful.
