Meet Ben Amos

Today we’d like to introduce you to Ben Amos.

Every artist has a unique story. Can you briefly walk us through yours?
I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale Florida. I fell in love with skateboarding and punk rock at an early age. My lifestyle didn’t allow for me to do well in school. I hated school. I dropped out at 16. Some of my friends started tattooing. My Mom knew tattooing was my calling but I wasn’t ready. I ended up homeless, high on drugs and booze for about a decade, maybe longer.

When I ended up in Texas I was working a shitty job and tattooing out if my apartment. A local shop had a couple of their tattooers walk out on them. The shop owner knew I was tattooing out of my apartment and offered me a job. I didn’t have an apprenticeship and was put straight to work. I battled drug addiction my whole life. Eventually I couldn’t keep a job. I finally had enough and checked myself into a rehab in Dallas, Texas. It was a good decision. I was working shitty jobs again. A year later a shop I used to work at saw I was clean and asked if I would work for them again. I’ve been clean ever since. Today you can find me at Rebel Muse Tattoo in Lewisville, Texas USA. Cheers, Ben Amos @bendeadtattoos

Please tell us about your art.
I make tattoos. I like making neotraditional tattoos. My style allows me a certain amount of freedom to create my unique designs without having to compromise the composition and or be restricted by too many rules. My tattoos and art are simplistic and loud. You can tell I made it and you can see what it is from across the street.

Choosing a creative or artistic path comes with many financial challenges. Any advice for those struggling to focus on their artwork due to financial concerns?
