Today we’d like to introduce you to Bibi Watts.
Bibi, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
I am an extremely passionate person, have always loved to share bits and pieces of myself with others, and since childhood wanted to be an inspiration to anyone that needed upliftment. I didn’t always know how I’d go about doing this but was certain that part of my gift was the power of words/expression.
I could tell the story of my life, and how I ultimately ended up being a lifestyle blogger, working towards monetization. But, I don’t think we have time here haha. The shortest version I can give now is really this, I want people to hear the perspective of a black, Muslim, artist, in its rawest form, over a cup of coffee.
Being a fairly new lifestyle blogger, I can only talk about what I intend to cover since I haven’t gotten the chance to venture out as much yet. My intentions are to inspire women all over the world to be the best version of themselves they can possibly be while drinking coffee. 🙂 If you can’t do that, you’re really not living. For a better introduction to my blog, check out my first blog post here – http://coffeeandthedailygrind.com/why-i-chose-to-blog/.
I cover coffee (among other) reviews, blended families, styling, events, social/current issues, self-love, poetry, etc.. I’ve never been one who likes to be boxed up. I suggest you head to the blog, Subscribe, and come along this ride with me. There will be turbulence, but I’m guaranteeing you’ll enjoy it. 💖
Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
It has not been easy thus far. I started blogging while unemployed after having been laid off from my job in the mortgage industry. The biggest challenge for me has been financial. There is information about being a blogger without paying a bunch of money, but if you want people to take you seriously, you’ll need it.
Also, the blogging industry is over saturated and largely “picture perfect.” This we all know is not reality. So when someone like myself, steps on the scene in all my beautiful imperfection, it’s hard to get people to notice you exist and are about to take over. Lastly, I’m brutally honest, and a lot of times people cannot handle the truth.
Alright – so let’s talk business. Tell us about Coffee & The Daily Grind – what should we know?
I’m a Lifestyle Blogger, Self Care Enthusiast, Established Poet, and Emerging Coffee Critic/Zumba Instructor. My blog is about all of the above and more. I’m most known as a performance poetess/singer.
I’m most proud of my ability to be true to who I am, and not allow anyone else to define who and what I am or should be.
What sets me apart is my authenticity and unapologetic audacity to live out loud.
Any shoutouts? Who else deserves credit in this story – who has played a meaningful role?
I’d give credit to my sister Hashima Watts for always pushing me to do and be more than what I am. And Mattie James (style blogger) for her generosity in sharing so much about how to establish yourself as a blogger or leader in any field really. Even though I’m sure she’s super busy, she has always been so engaged and responsive whenever I reach out to her. I’m not sure if they know, but they’ve both been a great help to me lately.
