Today we’d like to introduce you to Blake Brake.
Blake, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I was born in a small town called Duncan Oklahoma, my family moved to Dallas when I was only about a year old because of my dad’s job and we just kind of kept moving south and ended up in the Houston area when I was about four. I started playing music when I was about 12 when my grandma sent me a gift shop souvenir ukulele from her vacation to Hawaii.
At first, I honestly just thought it would be kind of funny to play my favorite songs on a tiny little guitar, you know? I would bring my ukulele to school with me everyday and play in the cafeteria while waiting on my mom to pick me up. But I had no idea that I would fall in love with playing music and performing for other people.
My parents split up when I was young, my mom moved back to Oklahoma with my little brother and older sister, and my dad wasn’t too keen on me trying to make music my career choice… he wanted me to get my degree. So I made the tough decision to move out right when I turned 17 to being pursuing my music career!
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc. – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
I, at the age of 17, after my parent’s divorce, I decided that I was tired of being caught in the middle of my parent’s constant disputes. So I decided to move out and pursue music.
It was very depressing at first and it was a HUGE change for me considering that I had no money, I was sleeping on an old bandmates couch, and I mean… I missed my family, (my mom, brother, and sister all moved to Oklahoma shortly after I moved out so this made it very difficult for me to see them).
Thankfully, I had music as my emotional outlet and amazing friends by my side so I was was able to overcome these obstacles. I honestly have no idea what I would do if I didn’t have my friends in my life.
Other than that, it has just been regular life struggles like balancing bartending, managing a recording studio, and my own brand. And bad relationships…
We’d love to hear more about what you do.

********on May 22nd Blake Brake will be sharing the stage with international pop star Aaron Carter at Scout Bar*******
For each of the artists who take the stage May 22, the performance at the Scout Bar will be a personal pivotal moment – a cinematic climax draped in a veneer of flashing lights and upbeat pop music.
For Houston R&B singer/songwriter Blake Brake, that moment is the chance to take his story to the next level. The 24-year old has been performing throughout the city since 2017, performing at everything from festivals to tattoo expos. Now, as an opening act for Aaron Carter, he will have the opportunity to play in front of hundreds of potential fans, as well as those elusive potential industry insiders waiting in the wings.
“It’s kind of mind-blowing when a guy like Aaron Carter picks you to perform on the same stage like him,” says Brake of the opportunity. “I mean, here’s a guy that went platinum by age 9, has a Backstreet Boy for a brother, and has been doing this thing his whole life. It’s a real vote of confidence and we’re going to put on a great show for everyone, so show up early!”
What were you like growing up?
When I was a little kid, believe it or not, I was very active in sports! I loved baseball most of all, and I actually played from the age of four until I was 16. I also like to skateboard, I started when I was about ten years old, and I still skate from time to time even now!
I started playing the ukulele when I was 12, my grandma got me a souvenir ukulele from Hawaii, and I taught myself how to play my favorite songs on it. That later evolved into learning guitar and then even later, singing and songwriting! Music slowly started to consume my whole life, and now I’m the skinny hippie that you see today!
Throughout my whole life, I have always been a very loving person. I love to help others, I love to be there for my friends and others when they need someone to talk to. I love to see people grow.
***Most of all, I ALWAYS like to bring positive vibes. I just want to put smiles on peoples faces to be quite honest.***
