Meet Bonnie of Art by Bonnie Blue in Hobby

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bonnie Blue.

So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I’ve always been an artist but 17 years ago inspiration hit and I got a great idea to paint people on rocks cause “we rock!! As soon as I started offering this service I created the women rock art car I traveled the country in my art car for years and sold my rock art. In the beginning it was about women so I mostly just did women. My message on my art car is. The women rock art car was created for women. By a woman to honor women because across the miles continents barriers laughter abuse tears or skin color; we are all connected at the heart. The art car has whom many awards over the years and each year I change the faces. So far I’ve had 42 women on it and I do all the paintings myself. In 2007 I decided to send a rock of Ellen DeGeneres to her and 3 weeks later she opened. Her show with it and talked about me. How cool!! That shot me ahead 10 years in my rock caricature business. You can see lots of this on my website, Womenthatrocks.com. Including the footage from her show. Now I do lots of different types of art. I’m do art openings on a pretty regular basis. A very small idea 16 years ago has grown into a very successful business and people know me as the rock lady. They have been on Ellen, David letterman, Wbal news in Baltimore, Debra Duncan, etc. I have done 20,000 people on rocks and counting. Just this past weekend I was honored to offer my services at the bayou city art festival. I believed in my idea so much I would not stop it. I would even do it for free and I have a few times but it’s mostly multiple living now.

Has it been a smooth road?
Is any road really smooth? No. If it weren’t for the struggles it would not have made me want to try harder. Mostly people. Laughing at me when I first started doing the rocks. Because it’s never been done before. I can paint a person in 5 minutes on a rock. That’s pretty incredible but people failed to see the amazing ability in that. When Ellen featured my art on her show it shot me ahead 10 years and people did not laugh at it anymore. They would say. “Hey I saw this on Ellen”
