Brandi, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I have always enjoyed entertaining & hosting my events. Play.Choose.Date.™️ Speed Dating with a Game Night Twist (P.C.D.) was an idea that informed while I was in law school. I would always see various game night events being promoted in various different cities. One day, I mentioned to my best friend LaToya Sheals, “I wouldn’t mind combining speed dating with a game night! She gave me this puzzled look and then followed up with an “OK Then!” At that time, I had no clue how it was going to work, but I knew I had an idea, and when I was ready and in the right place, I was going to make it happen. Years went by, life happened and then finally, in May 2018, my vision came alive. I had my first-speed dating event with a game night twist here in Houston, TX. Many events followed, successful matches occurred & later, I trademarked the name.
After putting the wheels into motion with P.C.D., next, I decided that I wanted to do a podcast. I would watch various different talk shows and wondered why there aren’t any talk shows with all attorneys. There are a few doctor’s shows, but they don’t have any lawyer shows. Because of this, I reached out to my colleagues/friends Samantha Frazier & Terria Hutchinson, and asked them to be my cohosts. At first, I had no clue if they wanted to be apart of this journey with me, but they agreed. We worked for over a year trying to create this podcast. Every time we thought we were ready to launch, life would get in the way. But in August 2019, we launched No Further Questions Podcast.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Starting P.C.D. was a smooth road, but starting No Further Questions was not. During the time of trying to launch No Further Questions, I lost my father. He died on December 23, 2018. Losing a parent is like your soul has been sucked out of your body. That is the worse heartbreak I have ever felt. Due to my loss, we put the podcast on hold for a while. However, I still wanted to bring my vision alive, so I had to keep going to make this happen.
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the No Further Questions Podcast and Play.Choose.Date.™️ story.
P.C.D. is known for speed dating with a game night twist. Instead of your traditional speed dating events where you ask the awkward and boring questions, I incorporate old school games such as Connect 4, Uno, & Operation to break the house between the speed daters. No Further Questions is a podcast with three black female Attorney’s who practice law in the Houston area. We are licensed in the State of Texas, and we each practice in different areas of law. Our podcasts provide legal tips and discuss what’s hot and trending in the news.
Has luck played a meaningful role in your life and business?
I don’t believe in luck. I believe in God & blessings. God has continuously blessed me, placed me in the right situations and with the right people that have assisted in taking both businesses to the next level.
