Today we’d like to introduce you to Brandon Jenkins.
Hi Brandon, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I began my journey in 2021 as a content creator during the pandemic, initially driven by a desire to express my creativity and expand my reach. Starting in the realm of men’s fashion content, I gradually transitioned into the world of education within content creation. Along the way, I focused on strengthening my brand and honing my skills, recognizing the diverse components involved in creativity and content creation. For me, perseverance, dedication, and consistency were crucial factors in my progress. Building a community became a cornerstone of my journey, fostering engagement and providing a sense of continuity amidst the evolving landscape of content creation.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
Navigating the journey hasn’t been a smooth road for me. Initially delving into the world of fashion content creation, I encountered challenges breaking through the saturated niche and found myself emulating others on social media platforms. It wasn’t until I realized the importance of authenticity and organic creativity within education that I truly found my stride. Along the way, maintaining consistency proved difficult, as setbacks often led me to question my abilities. Additionally, grappling with authenticity and staying true to myself amidst external pressures was a struggle. However, embracing my unique voice and recognizing that my journey is ultimately for myself helped me overcome these obstacles and continue moving forward.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I specialize in education, particularly as a fourth-grade ESL teacher, with a deep passion for promoting representation and diversity within the field. As a content creator, I leverage my platform to advocate for inclusive practices in education, raising awareness about the importance of diversity and inclusion for both teachers and students. One of my proudest achievements is using my voice to address policymakers at the Texas State Capitol and the United States Capitol in Washington, D.C. Through sharing my story and testimony; I’ve worked to highlight the needs of teachers of color and advocate for equitable practices in areas such as state testing and funding. What sets me apart is my unapologetic authenticity—I bring a dynamic approach to my content, blending humor and comedy while still addressing important issues that deserve attention.
Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
For me personally, finding someone who authentically wants to help you is paramount. Understanding that mentorship and networking are reciprocal relationships is crucial; it’s not just about what you can gain but also what you can offer in return. Don’t hesitate to recognize your own value and contributions. I’ve found that having confidence in the value of my insights and experiences has been instrumental. Knowing that my voice will be heard and that I have something valuable to bring to the table has been a guiding principle in my networking journey.
