Today we’d like to introduce you to Brenda Guy.
Brenda, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
I had my “first solo” while attending elementary and have enjoyed singing and music ever since. As a teenager, when my friends were dating and out having fun partying; because my mom was somewhat strict and limited my activities, I was home listening to music and fell in love.
I LOVE “all things music”… I perform a variety of genres, ranging from Rhythm & Blues, Oldies, Country, Blues, Classic Rock, and Disco. Based on my wide repertoire, I am able to accept impromptu requests for any audience. I am “old school”, so I perform all the music when music was really good!
I started out performing with bands; however, because of the inconsistencies that I had no control over, I decided to venture out on my own as a “Solo Entertainer”.
Music comes from deep within, overflows outwardly and soothes the soul. I’ve had the opportunity to share my gift at various events. I’ve been blessed to receive “RAVE”reviews on all of my bookings/performances. I take each opportunity to showcase my GOD-given talent by song delivery, connecting with my audience and creating an atmosphere of joy, laughter, and FUN!
I love people. There are many ways to communicate; I choose to do so by embracing them via music. I am music!!
Has it been a smooth road?
It hasn’t been a totally smooth ride and it also hasn’t been too bumpy. I welcome challenges and believe in finding a way to overcome them. Hence, the reason I chose to venture out on my own as a solo entertainer.
As a solo entertainer, not playing an instrument, and utilizing background accompaniments makes it more challenging to get your foot in the door for some venues, festivals, and etc. But I keep pushing forward and never ever ever give up!! That’s NOT an option!
But oh boy when I do……………….. you can rest assured; although I am humbled by the opportunity, there is no doubt that I am going to ROCK da HOUSE!!! As a result, my clients are happy and I am called back for additional bookings! So although I am a “One Woman Show”, I pack a full band performance!
So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Brenda Guy The One Woman Show story. Tell us more about the business.
I am an entertainer with over 20 years of experience. I am known for embracing my audience and being able to perform a variety of genres. In fact, most on-lookers will say………..”man, you never know what’s going to come out of her mouth”; is there anything that she cannot sing?
Additionally, as an Entertainer, I perform for festivals, corporate events, weddings, parties, retirement parties, restaurants, and grand openings. Basically for all occasions.
I am most proud of my ability to connect, understand and provide a professional, quality and fun product to my clients. It is important that I put my client first and always ensure we are on the same page. I take pride in the level of service I provide to both my client and the audience. Also, I am proud to have served as the “opening act” for “The Fabulous Thunder Birds”, I have been featured on the Sam Malone Show, served as entertainment for The Houston Chronicle Best Dress Gala and of course now; giving the honor to be interviewed and featured in – Voyage Houston. I am humbled and appreciative of all of the above opportunities!
What sets me apart; is the fact that although I am just one person; once you have experienced “Brenda Guy The One Woman Show” as an entertainer/vocalist……………..you realize you never needed a band; just someone who understands your entertainment needs and is committed to exceeding your expectations. That’s me! *wink*
How do you think the industry will change over the next decade?
I see the industry changing by social media giving artists more direct access to audiences without having to be “in the industry” as well as seeing artificial intelligence changing how people listen to music and what kinds i.e. Alexa, Google mini’s, Pandora tracking people’s choices and serving them more of the same automatically. With that being said; perhaps one day we will not even leave our living room to view concerts. Instead of being at the arena or an amphi-theater we will pay on-line, invite friends over and your favorite artist “live” concert will be streaming right before your eyes…..without leaving your home….it’s a party!
BUT, since I am an old school girl, I will always want to connect with my audience up front and personal! I want to FEEL the people and them to FEEL me! I am just that kind of a girl!
