Today we’d like to introduce you to Briana and Travis Holden.
Briana and Travis, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
The business originally started with just desserts. My mom has the best dessert recipes that was passed down from her mom. While I was on a job search after college, I took time to create some of the desserts as a stress reliever. Hours later, I would find myself with a kitchen full of desserts. I then would take them to family members or shelters. People would begin to ask me if I made this or that and would make it for them. Shortly after, one of my friends reached out to me about an opportunity. We began to work together. She helped me as I helped her as a pastry chef for her catering company. I did this for years, even after I secured a job. Then I met my husband. He would take my desserts and sell them at work and in the neighborhood. It seemed like everyday I was baking but it didn’t feel like work.
I later found out my husband had a gift, he can cook. I love to watch him create the most unique dishes and sauces. Together we created mouth-watering dishes. I like to consider him Savory and I am Sweet. When we created a dish we both love we would jokingly say Bae put that on the menu. Unconsciously speaking it into existence. Some of those great dishes you are able to enjoy today because they were placed on the menu. This business have been formed simply from the love of cooking. We like to say we are making life sweeter one meal at a time. This is how The Official Sweet Life was created.
Has it been a smooth road?
Life hasn’t always been grand. We didn’t start out with everything. We just started. We placed all of our faith in God and worked. As we begin this business, we reached a major financial hardship. So here we were trying to keep everything together and start a business. We didn’t allow it to break us. This is when we took more time to develop the business. We have placed everything into this business. We have had losses and we have had wins but we continue on because we know this is greater than us. We are simply doing what we love and sharing it with everyone.

The Official Sweet Life is a catering company. We specialize in creole cuisine and desserts. Our company is most known for Shrimp and Grits and Blackened Catfish over Crawfish Dressing. We give you a taste of the bayou not just New Orleans. We give you an experience. We pour love into our food. We source the best seafood for our clients. We take time to get to know our clients and what they love. Then we create their menu with all things they love with a Creole flare. I am most proud of the placement it is today. Despite of the obstacles, we have continuously provided excellent service to all of our clients.
Is our city a good place to do what you do?
Houston is an amazing city to start a business. I would recommend it to anybody who has a business or thinking of starting one to consider Houston. My wife and I have grown so much because of this city. You have welcomed us with open arms and we appreciate it so much.
