Meet Britt Lais Williams of Butter Artistry

Today we’d like to introduce you to Britt Lais Williams.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Britt. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I like to believe that my love for beauty is based on exploring the depth of my mother’s makeup drawer and learning the perfect curl set at a young age. I mean does it tell you anything that “grounding” in my world at 17 meant “you can keep the car keys, but hand over the eyelash curler…”?

I went on to get my degree in Marketing and studied to get my Masters in Business Administration unaware that you could have a full-time career in makeup. During my years of academic study, I interviewed for a part-time position at a high-end salon and spa. It was here that I learned the ever important basics of skin care and product use that so much of my trade is based on today. To this day I have no idea why they would take a chance on an 18-year-old with no credentials, but I am so glad they did.

Three months before walking down the aisle, my Mister moved us to the wonderful city of Houston that we have now called home for almost 9 years. Texas and its southern culture opened my eyes to the possibility and opportunity to make a career out of lipstick and hairspray. With the support of my husband and my nears and dears, I have been able to build what I now consider every girl’s dream job… after all, we basically play with Barbies all day.

Has it been a smooth road?
I believe that anything worth having comes with its trial and tribulations. After all, where is the fun is succeeding if you didn’t get a few scratches along the way to prove your grit? Some of those scratches have left scars but they are constant reminders of where we started, what we want, and where we want to go.

The beauty industry isn’t always as glamorous as it seems. It can be competitive, can bring out insecurities, and can test your desire to keep going. I did unpaid internships, worked for other girl bosses and built teams with other business partners before landing in a place of sole ownership.

Though the journey can bring forth unkind challenges, I honestly wouldn’t change any of those experiences. I learned so much from the other girl bosses I worked alongside and found inspiration, trade tips and tricks, and best friends along the way. I learned the ins and outs of growing and keeping a team, building a following, and remaining authentic through it all.

In the world of social media, it has been hard to keep that authenticity and not get caught up in the insecurity and comparison it brings. I believe that sometimes we are our own worst enemy who creates obstacles along the way that aren’t necessary when we start to question if we are “good enough”.

So let’s switch gears a bit and go into the Butter Artistry story. Tell us more about the business.
Butter is an exclusive on-location makeup and hair artistry team that specializes in airbrush makeup. We are proud to be grounded in Spiritual roots with our name and foundation being inspired out of a beautiful scripture found in the book of Isaiah.

“Butter and Honey shall He eat, that He may know to refuse the evil and choose the good” Isaiah 7:15

We have a passion for creating stunning faces for beautiful souls. Our clients become our friends and our friends become our clients, which is one of the best parts of our job. We want to be known as the team that you want with you on your wedding day or at your photo shoot; not only for our beauty skills but also for our bubbly personalities and high level of client service.

Our portfolio ranges from weddings to editorial, lifestyle and runway.

Our wedding style lends itself to a soft romantic look with a pop of color on those lips that brings a bit of glamour to the big day. Our goal is to bridge the gap between timeless traditional and modern trends, all while showcasing our client’s natural beauty.

We strive to be the “easy” part of wedding planning, events, and photo shoots. It’s makeup and hair, it should be fun.

Where do you see your industry going over the next 5-10 years?  Any big shifts, changes, trends, etc?
I thrive on the ever-changing trends in makeup and hair. After 10 years of watching the styles change, I’ve found there is a beauty that emerges from intermixing the ‘newest + coolest’ with the ‘classy + timeless’, creating looks to last a lifetime. There is no doubt the industry is an ever-evolving cycle of new trends and shifts. For the past few years, we have lived in a land of soft glam, etherial inspired braids, and fairytale looks.

For bridal, you will continue to see a variation of these same looks and but going forward I think we are going to see a shift back to the simplicity of makeup and hair. Less tease and praise the Lord, fluffy brows are here to stay!

We are living in a time where social media is truly shaping the direction we will go. It is giving power to an individual expression which makes possibilities endless. At the touch of a button, we are able to share trends globally which opens up quick trend turnarounds.

Product development will be the game changer over the next 5-10 years making it easier for professionals to create beautiful looks with ease.

Regardless of where the trends take us, we will always believe that every woman can wear red lipstick with boldness and confidence, and a contoured cheekbone is a must for work and for play.
