Meet Brittany Levine-Forrest and Shantai Warren of Klutter Kontrol in North Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Levine-Forrest and Shantai Warren.

Brittany and Shantai, let’s start with your story. We’d love to hear how you got started and how the journey has been so far.
Shantai and I (Brittany), former co-workers and besties, have worked alongside each other for the past 11 years.

One day, during a deep discussion about making life easier, we both agreed that one aspect of making life more enjoyable is organization. In a nutshell, organization within our homes and businesses allows us to save time, money and energy to enjoy the people and activities that we love.

With Shantai’s highly structured organizing routines and my creativity in aesthetic and function, we set out on a mission to bring order into homes and businesses throughout the Greater Houston Area. We wanted to bring relief to our busy-bees that dedicate their time to work and family and just needed a system in place to stay organized. We also wanted to focus on our senior citizens that need help purging the countless items they’ve collected over the years; we want to help make their golden years more enjoyable by removing the unnecessary items from their life so that what is left is manageable and things that they truly love.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Covid-19! The pandemic definitely interrupted the way we conducted aspects of our business and required a little creativity to overcome those hurdles. For example, instead of in-person consultations, we had to perfect conducting virtual consultations, making sure clients revealed all of their “nooks of shame” so that we could be prepared to work on-site.

In addition to having to adjust professionally, we had to adjust in our private lives as well. We are both mothers, so the closure of schools meant less flexibility in scheduling work and clients….a predicament mothers around the world are dealing with. Balancing our business venture, parenting, and homes has been a much-welcomed challenge though. It has really put our organizing theories to the test and allowed us to make tweaks as needed and grow as we learn.

Please tell us about Klutter Kontrol.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Brittany—

Growing up, my family had Christmas gatherings at one of my Aunt’s house. Her little house would be warmed with the love and laughter of at least 20 bodies and the smell of savory gumbo and sweet desserts. Presents would be oozing from under the Christmas tree; but, what always captivated me were the stories of my aunts and older cousins…the hilarious adventures of their childhood, the challenges of growing up in their era, and the lessons they had to learn in order to grow…honestly, it was juicy chatter to young ears, but now, they are priceless pearls of wisdom that I cling to. These gatherings molded me into the woman I am today…keen on family values and the comforts of home.

Shantai—

My grandparents owned a farm on what seemed like land that never ended. My siblings and I would visit during the summer and I just felt so loved. I would feed the chickens with my grandmother, and no matter how many times I had this pleasure, I would still laugh at how the chickens looked clucking around in the yard. And, I know it sounds gory, but I would eagerly watch my grandfather and dad butcher the deer they recently hunted. In Houston, I could not leave my front yard when I went outside to play, but in the back-country of Louisiana, my siblings and I could roam the land freely and have all kinds of adventures. Watching my family work for every dime, every egg, and every meal instilled in me the value of hard work. Nowadays, if you don’t find me working hard, it’s because I earned my right to a break.
