Meet Brittany Sanders of WzupDet

Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Sanders.

Hi Brittany, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was inspired to start my own label by being a fan of Berry Gordy/Suzanne De Passé the founder of my hometown’s most prominent record label Motown. I was a die-hard Michael Jackson fan growing up, I would watch tons of documentaries, movies, and performances about how he and his family got their start. I was hooked on learning the process of how to build a successful label. Besides that, I was raised in church. My church family is one of the most renowned groups of all time; The Winans. I’ve gotten as far as I have by keeping my faith in God and being motivated my peers, my friends, aka FWDDS. Early on they were a part of different talent showcases that weren’t necessarily giving them the opportunities I believed they deserved so I wanted to create my own company to assist them and upcoming creatives in developing their gifts.

Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not, what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
Honestly, it hasn’t always been a smooth road. It definitely didn’t start out the way it’s been recently. In the beginning, I ran into a lot of selfish players, people who only saw their vision and didn’t want to assist others. I’m very big on being a team player, especially making sure I build with people who want to build the way a team should. Everyone contributes, but you have to be dedicated and patient. Everybody can’t shoot the rock, somebody gotta pass, somebody gotta block & somebody gotta ride the bench sometimes. That way, everyone has their turn.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
My initial thought process behind starting my business was to assist those who aren’t “known” to leave a legacy. It was founded sometime in the summer of 2017, to help spotlight those unheard. Featuring artists + creatives from Detroit and more. Our main goal will always be to put on for those who need it. You don’t have to be famous to leave a legacy, We serve as a start up company for all creatives, artists, local brands and businesses. But I wanted to specialize in artist development.

WzupDet is completely different from most start up companies simply because we’re like a family. We allow each other to lead, we take turns & we play our parts. We don’t take control, we guide one another. We come together when projects need to be executed. We find joy in getting the job done, going beyond the expectations of what’s already required. Most times creatives have a vision but don’t have the tools for completion so great ideas simply only turn out to be that. Just an idea, we turn ideas into action & movements. Once you tell us what you want to do, we assist in helping that idea come into fruition.

I’m most proud of finally havimg the team I’ve always desired. Everyone plays a part. Without me; (the owner; RihYonceWest) asking. I’m very grateful to have Kosher Lee, Crimson Alchemist, Monetary Plug, Dj Stacyej, GirlsWhoLoveHipHop, Imperial MediaTV, and the SoundProof Detroit family who assist in growing the company.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
If you’re looking for a mentor, you don’t have to look far. Just look up above. Ask the Universe for what you desire. My best mentor has been God, trusting God will never leave you or forsake you. Go to God for everything! The divine will never lead you wrong.
