Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Waddell.
So, before we jump into specific questions about the business, why don’t you give us some details about you and your story.
I officially embarked on my health and fitness journey last summer in 2019. I never knew that it would be the catalyst of Watch Her Prep, but in hindsight, I believe it was ultimately all apart of God’s plan for my life. Last summer, I was the heaviest I had ever been and was truly unhappy with my weight. I had an annual physical and learned that I had high cholesterol. I was shocked and a bit alarmed, but it was not what prompted the change. My aunt died last summer from cancer, and I went home to North Carolina for her funeral. I hadn’t seen many of my extended family in months, some even years, and all they commented on was my size. Their comments, combined with the thoughts and feelings I already had about my weight, was the straw that broke the camels back. I honestly had no clue what I was going to do, I just knew I had to do something. One thing about me is that when I get a plan and a goal in mind, I make it a point to crush the goal. I embarked on a fitness challenge, which consisted of working out five days a week, and meal prepping weekly. I woke up every morning at 4 am and did cardio, and every day after work, I also worked out. I was on a mission.
Before I knew it, I fit into all of my old clothes, had increased energy, met my goal weight, and was truly and genuinely happy. It all started with changing my diet and incorporating exercise. I joined Reggie C Fitness, which is an all women’s gym, and continued to meal prep. I love my gym because the community there is priceless! I think the key to weight loss is finding a fitness routine that you enjoy. Another major key is your diet, and that is how Watch Her Prep was born. Diet is a key contributor to disparities in many chronic diseases and conditions. I’ve seen too many of my family members die prematurely due to poor eating habits and a lack of physical activity. It’s stopping with me. That will no longer be the story for my family and my bloodline. Being physically fit is much more than looking great in your clothes, even though that is a plus, it’s about being alive and staying alive to live out your purpose and the call God has on your life. I refuse to let a lack of discipline when it comes to food, of all things, steal my future and quality of life.
Some say the first step is starting. Wrong. The first step is having an honest conversation with yourself, getting accountability, and then starting. That is where I come in as a Health Coach. I help women set goals, create plans, and then hold them accountable.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
The road has not been smooth at all. Living a healthy lifestyle is a daily choice. During quarantine, when all of the gyms closed, I had to quickly pivot and readjust my routine. It was tough! I was coaching clients and holding them accountable, all the while giving myself pep talks and motivation to keep going. There were days where I did not get out of bed because of the heaviness that was going on in the world, and the gym for me was a form of self-care. With the gym not being accessible, I was fortunate to still be able to do live workouts via Zoom with Reggie C Fitness.
Watch Her Prep – what should we know? What do you do best? What sets you apart from the competition?
Watch Her Prep is a health coaching business. I help women set goals, create plans. and hold them accountable. I specialize in helping clients meal prep for weight loss. I am like a tough-love coach, and I say things to my clients that most people probably would never say, but I say it in love. I strongly believe that if it doesn’t challenge you, it won’t change you. Meal prepping consistently is not always easy. Finding time to incorporate physical activity into your routine is not easy. However, it is not impossible. I help clients fit it into their schedules. It is not a one size fits all model. I am most proud of all of my current and past clients. I truly love hearing their success stories and the feelings of accomplishment they share when they crush a goal or lose weight that they never thought they could lose. The thing that sets me apart from others is my commitment and passion for what I do. It is not about the money for me. I genuinely enjoy helping women reach their health and fitness goals because it is one of the best gifts you can give to yourself; health is wealth.
What moment in your career do you look back most fondly on?
My proudest moment has been when my aunt, who is 67 years old, called me and asked for me to help her meal prep! It warmed my heart because my purpose for starting my business was to break generational health disparities and ailments that have been so prevalent in my family.
