Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryan Doty.
Bryan, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
I stumbled into the hair world when I was in high school, fell in love with it, and have never looked back. In my junior year of high school, having no interest in ever working with hair, I enrolled into my school’s cosmetology program because it counted as my PE credit. What started as a way to avoid gym class stole my heart and helped me realize that working in the hair and beauty industry would give me an outlet to be creative and work doing something I love and am passionate about.
After high school, I worked at Sally Beauty Supply for a few years until I was eventually given an amazing opportunity at CutLoose Salon in the Montrose area of Houston. I started at CutLoose with a year long apprenticeship, where I learned the essential skills for hair dressing and the basics. After finishing my apprenticeship, I became a full time stylist and have been at CutLoose ever since.
I am also an Oribe ambassador and have had amazing opportunities taking classes ranging from Downtown Houston all the way to New York City! I love working in a field where I get to make inspiring clientele happy while continuing to learn and hone my craft on a daily basis.
Has it been a smooth road?
All artists suffer for their work, and there will always be obstacles, but overcoming those obstacles is what makes you stronger and forces you to grow. The hair, fashion, and art worlds are always evolving, and I work every day to make sure that my personal abilities develop for my clients and not just the current trends.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with cutLoose – tell our readers more, for example, what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
I am a stylist at CutLoose Salon in the Montrose area of Houston, specializing in hair cutting, styling, and love to get creative with coloring. My goal is to make my clients look great, no matter what. Some of my favorite types of hair to work with are natural textures, curls, waves, and hair movement. Working in Montrose brings in a great and diverse clientele and I love how every day brings something new.
Let’s touch on your thoughts about our city – what do you like the most and least?
Some of my favorite things about Houston are amazing art, food, attractions, and accessibility. We are lucky to be an ever-growing city where everything is constantly improving and evolving.
Sometimes, I dislike how crowded everything can be. I grew up in a kind of small town and at times I really miss being able to go on a ride on my dirt bike.
