Meet Bryant and Brandaise Reckling of True Craft Market & Catering in Spring Valley Village

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryant and Brandaise Reckling.

True Craft Market & Catering was opened by Bryant and Brandaise Reckling in August 2019. Bryant developed the vision of True Craft Market & Catering after owning his own catering company, YourTable Mobile Catering Kitchen, for five years in the greater Houston Area. Bryant began YourTable as an onsite caterer, specializing in BBQ. He would travel to people’s homes and put on a live cooking show using his BBQ pit. YourTable Mobile Catering Kitchen quickly began to grow as Bryant began to handle all aspects of the event for his clients, from the food and table décor to service and bartenders. During this time Bryant began expanding his food interests, still cooking on his BBQ pit, he was beginning to incorporate different types of cuisine, like grilled redfish and his famous Quail Enchiladas.

In 2017 Bryant and Brandaise moved to Australia to explore and learn a different culture. While abroad, Bryant had the opportunity to work for chef Neil Perry at Rockpool Bar & Grill in Melbourne, Australia. During this time, Bryant homed in on his love for cooking with an open flame and simple ingredients; this is something that really influences all the recipes in True Craft Market & Catering.

Upon their return to the States, Bryant began searching for the perfect place to open True Craft Market & Catering. This new adventure was intended to be an extension of YourTable Mobile Catering and Kitchen. Bryant would have his own commercial kitchen and a chance to really expand the menu for his catering clients.

After a year of searching for the right location, Bryant found the perfect spot in Spring Valley Village—an easy location for his current clients, and a great spot for finding new ones. After a year of build-out, the space was ready to be opened to the public. On August 1, 2019 True Craft Market & Catering opened its doors to the public. The storefront has now been open for seven months and has grown into a bustling lunch spot as well as event caterer.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Starting a small business is not easy; there are different struggles each day. However, when you have a passion for what you’re doing, it makes the work enjoyable.

Please tell us about True Craft Market & Catering.
True Craft Market is a specialty foods market that focuses on fresh foods made from scratch. We pride ourselves on creating a quality product while taking into consideration our customer’s busy life. We want our food to be enjoyed by families with hectic schedules without sacrificing high quality food and ingredients. We are most proud of our wood-burning grill and rotisserie, which is really the heart of our kitchen.

Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Growing up with a large family of boys, my mother was constantly cooking. We were always gathering around the table to eat terrific meals that my parents prepared for us. I believe that cooking was ingrained in me from a very young age.
