Meet Bryce Carpenter

Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryce Carpenter.

Bryce, can you briefly walk us through your story – how you started and how you got to where you are today.
My name is Bryce Carpenter and I am a 22-year-old law student at Thurgood Marshall School of Law in Houston, Texas. I excelled in school from the beginning and found the coursework throughout my time in school to be easy. After my 17th birthday, I graduated high school early and chose to attend Southeastern Louisiana University. I became very involved in college, joining the Nu Omega chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc. and was voted by the student body Homecoming King in 2017. During my course of time in Hammond, Louisiana, I reached out to National Football League Player’s Association agent Joseph Clayborne who was the son of an Illinois senator I got to know back in high school. I knew I needed to find a way to get experience in the business of sports and Joseph gave me my chance. At the time, Mr. Clayborne was coming off signing a second-round pick in each of his first two years as a certified agent. My title was marketing coordinator, but my tasks ranged from obtaining marketing deals for the clients, planning the client’s annual youth camps, and doing statistics and analytical research for upcoming contract negotiations. By the time I graduated from college in 2018, I was only 20 years old and decided I should go to law school to allow myself to not only be a sports agent but an attorney. I’ve built relationships with other agents as well, such as Deshaun Harris and Harrison Gaines, who have been there to help me get to where I am now starting my agency. Here I am now at 22 years old, a National Basketball Player’s Association (NBPA) agent, and about to graduate from Thurgood Marshall School of Law with my Juris Doctorate. I am one of the youngest agents in the business, and the odds are against me to sign a draft pick for this upcoming draft. I’m confident in myself and the company I’ve put together that I will be able to beat the odds and not only be just one of the youngest agents but the youngest NBA agent ever with a player selected in the NBA draft.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
I wouldn’t call it a struggle because I make it happen, but balancing the travel schedule that comes with being an agent while in law school can be difficult at times. I have class five days a week this semester, but luckily my final semester in the fall, I will only have one class twice a week. I have to be in person. Every weekend I am pretty much on the road. During Monday through Friday, I typically go to class and do a lot of the behind the scenes work for the agency while in class and between class. I then go home, take phone calls, and then study at night. On the weekend, I typically fly out to attend games and meetings. As an agent, I am pretty much gone every weekend, and sometimes have to miss a class during the week for important meetings. The law school only allows five absences for each class, so I plan things strategically. Staying organized has helped me a lot.
