Today we’d like to introduce you to Bryn Cooper.
Bryn, please share your story with us. How did you get to where you are today?
By the time I was in high school, I knew I wanted to own a business, but I unsure about the type of business. So I went to college and started in economics classes only to learn how many peoples’ businesses fail, no matter how hard they work. I knew I wanted to build something that could provide a stable income. I also wanted to do something I could be passionate about. In my search for potential business opportunities, I was reminded of my grandfather’s practice where he helped create beautiful, healthy smiles.
From that point forward, I focused on school to become a board-certified orthodontist. After graduation, I completed clinical boards and began working as a contractor while I searched for the right location for my own practice, Cooper Orthodontics. Many people told me to go to the suburbs or a small town because there was nowhere to be successful inside the Inner Loop. After some market research, I found there were a lot of families and young professionals joining those already living in Rice Military, the Heights, and Montrose, so that’s where I focused my practice.
I love my location – I have adults that are empty nesters, young professionals, and patients as young as 6 visiting the office.
We’re always bombarded by how great it is to pursue your passion, etc – but we’ve spoken with enough people to know that it’s not always easy. Overall, would you say things have been easy for you?
Anyone that has a new business and says the road has been completely smooth is either delusional or in denial. There are late nights and early mornings and trying to find some balance when your business could fill every hour of every day. I’ve struggled with and learned a lot about how to hire the right people, how to use QuickBooks (without any business experience), how to guide my company, and how to motivate patients to achieve the best results. I’m learning every day and developing skills I never learned in orthodontic residency. The key thing for me has been setting goals and then finding the right people to achieve them.
So, as you know, we’re impressed with Cooper Orthodontics – tell our readers more, for example what you’re most proud of as a company and what sets you apart from others.
At Cooper Orthodontics, I want to offer my patients the best new technologies so we can help everyone improve their smile. For example, we use innovative technologies, like in-mouth scanners and 3D x-ray machines, that make collecting diagnostic information better than ever.
We also offer lots of treatment options, including traditional (metal braces), clear braces, clear aligners (i.e., Invisalign), and lingual braces. Each treatment option has advantages and disadvantages, but we work with patients to find a solution that fits their lifestyle.
So, what’s next? Any big plans?
We plan to keep growing & helping more and more people have beautiful, healthy smiles. Sometime in the next year we hope to go from 3 chairs to 5 chairs in our clinic.
The other aspect we hope to grow is our interactive social media. When a patient asks a question online, its Dr. Cooper’s goal to answer with a recorded answer. Go ahead and ask whatever you want!
