Today we’d like to introduce you to Butch Stephens.
Thanks for sharing your story with us Butch. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I started off volunteering at my church learning video and photo basics. One summer, they were planning a trip to Africa for missions work and asked if I could come with and record different events from the trip. I was hooked when I came back and decided to start my own video company recording various videos and telling stories of people’s lives. I then expanded my video and photo work to include weddings to capture moments during those special days. I was instantly hooked and have filmed and photographed many weddings since that first one.
Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
Struggles were trying to get my name out there. I was constantly putting out any sort of work I did on social media and sharing it with my friends and coworkers. I’ve been fortunate over the years to get with businesses that appreciate and like my work. There’s been seasons of constant jobs and seasons of void, but it’s been great because this is my side business and it’s not ever been overwhelming.
Please tell us about So Fly Video Productions.
I run a video and photography company (though the name just has video in it). I started off using drones when they were a rare occurrence that not many companies had a hold of. My main specialty now is wedding photography and videography focusing on capturing those moments that are special to the bride and groom and that day. What sets us apart is the quality work we produce. This isn’t just another video or photo company, but one that works on our relationship with our clients and creates real and authentic products that aren’t manufactured.
Do you look back particularly fondly on any memories from childhood?
Favorite memory from childhood would be being able to play out in the neighborhood with friends and have times on the beach. I grew up on Lake Erie in Ohio and there were so many good memories each summer of sailboats, swimming and riding around in powerboats.
