Meet Calah Jackson of The Naked Moms Collective in West Houston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Calah Jackson.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Calah. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
After becoming a mom, life was really lonely. I didn’t have many friends who also had babies that I could share experiences with. It was scary to feel so alone. So many moments in motherhood are raw and can trigger your past insecurities and I didn’t have many people to process through that or even help me understand how normal and even critical that process is.

From that place of vulnerability, my desire for real connection and the surety that other women were feeling lonely like I was, I created The Naked Moms Collective. I didn’t other women to struggle in silence all alone and I was tired of it too.

I took to my computer and launched my first site. Women were messaging me about how the posts were so relatable and how they felt seen. As we gained more article contributors bringing their diverse experiences, we started to grow. I knew I wanted this to be for every woman who felt alone. The Naked Moms Collective isn’t just for moms. We believe moms have the hard job of teaching their babies how to be fruitful in all kinds of relationships but are often walking through their own brokenness in those very areas of life. Even if you’re not a mother, your healing still matters because every woman plays a role in pouring into the next generation. We want to bridge the gap that society tries to create between women with children and women without to show that we need each other. We want to give women a place to talk about their struggle areas, celebrate their growth and learn from other women about

We recently relaunched our new website. We now have four contributors, Marilyn Migliaccio, Alex Yates, Meredith McCann, and Siobhan Rainey in addition to the founder, Calah Jackson who share their stories as well as welcoming guest writers to email us their stories! The Naked Moms collective is a diverse group of women engaging in hard conversations, sharing their stories and talents for the purpose of embracing womanhood, vulnerability and community.

Overall, has it been relatively smooth? If not, what were some of the struggles along the way?
The Naked Moms Collective is definitely not surface level. It has been so hard to carve out space for deep conversation in our age of quick, fast and in a hurry. To help women slow down (us included) and understand that what we are doing is going to look different than immediate satisfaction.

At one point, our entire site was deleted by our hosting company and we seriously considered if we should even rebuild. Even though we launched in 2017, it was many more years of work and heart put into it. At the end of the day the desire to rebuild came from knowing that God would give us more vision and passion than before if we were faithful with the small beginnings. That’s exactly what is happening!

Please tell us about The Naked Moms Collective.
The Naked Moms Collective is dedicated to making space for women dedicated to living powerful lives of vulnerability. What sets us apart is that we are fostering conversation about the taboo parts of womanhood and motherhood that aren’t necessarily fun to talk about but are areas we need to explore.

I am most proud of the way we craft article series. We take one umbrella topic and then many women will discuss their vantage point of the same thing on our site. We utilize our social platforms to keep the conversations going and encourage women to talk to the women around them.

In 2020, we are rolling out our meet-ups that will further this conversation and give more faces to the online community we have built! We will also be doing more podcast style conversations with women and moms to continue conversations!

If you had to go back in time and start over, would you have done anything differently?
If I could start over, I would have started even sooner! I didn’t realize how planting my feet and committing to doing this in excellence would challenge me, change me and grow me. I am absolutely in awe of how good God is to make up for all the areas I lack in. I have a whole new compassion for women in every season of life. I’ve made many mistakes and been super scared to put a lot of potentially controversial content out there, but I can confidently say that it even if one person has felt seen, heard or loved we have done exactly what God wanted us to do.
